I’m going to disagree.

Brooke had had her same producers since she went to New York other than a couple who left which she acknowledged.

It’s no t just about the anchor, it’s also the people behind, driving the program.

Acosta may be new at doing his own show, but he’s no amateur. He’s just come across as dull and beige.

If you compare Pamela Brown’s show to his - it’s a whole new ball game. It’s packed with guests and lives and what not. Her show feels alive.

Let’s see what unravels over the coming weeks.

And on the subject of Brooke….. I really don’t believe anyone at CNN can wade in and handle ‘Breaking News’ as she does. It’s a a crying shame she’s leaving. Just last week at the attack on the capitol! Zucker chose to stick with her 2 hour coverage and it was flawless. I’m going to miss that for one!

John Avlon is anchoring CNN Newsroom this hour from New York - never seen him anchoring a CNNI-only show before. Will be interesting to see how he goes. This is also quite possibly the first time since the pandemic (and excl during the US election) began that CNN Newsroom has been anchored outside of Atlanta, would that be right?

I also note the CNNI schedule for today shows just 45 min Newsroom block from 4am-8am GMT, with 2 World Sport bulletins (at their usual times), but also 15 min Living Golf and World of Wonder segments as well. I know they've been trialing this with QMB, but this appears to be new for CNN Newsroom.

This also appears to be the schedule for Wed, but Thurs & Fri have full news hours currently scheduled.

I believe the overnight Newsroom hours have been anchored by Anna Coren in Hong Kong, and Isa Soares in London during the pandemic.

John Avlon was covering New Day last week as well with Alison. He regularly appears there for a segment called "Reality Check".

I'd say that's a criticism of much of CNN ouput both Domestic and International - I'd struggle to tell you what's actually different between AC360, Outfront and your average Newsroom. All seem to have pretty similar stories presented in the same sort of way with similar talking heads. Maybe it's rose tinted glasses but the shows used to seem more distinctive while still effectively covering the main stories

And while I like the presentation of some of the CNNI programmes I'd too struggle to tell you what's so different between Hala's show (if it returns), Connect The World and your average CNNI Newsroom programme.

That's the same generally across the board with news channels. They tend to follow a list of stories through the day. Even if you watched the next BBC World News bulletin, and then came back in about 3-4 hours time, the stories will be the same just a bit updated. The good thing about that approach is you can flick it on at anytime and get a full wrap of the stories they are running.

I guess that's one thing the current mix of CNN US and CNNI gives us is we can tune in for international news during the CNNI blocks, and then get a domestic take on the news during New Day or the US Newsroom. But if that's the model they are following from now on I really think they need to change the names of the shows. Eg call the CNNI Newsroom blocks "World Newsdesk" or something (not that name, that's a terrible name, but you get where I'm going with it!) so people can identify that it's a block of global news.

I totally agree that CNN needs to change the names of its domestic programmes. New Day and Early Start doesn't really work when you're watching it in HK at 5pm and 6pm in the evening. In fact the powers that be at CNN should really reconsider their schedules if they're serious about retaining their claim to the title of the World's News Leader.

CNNI today is really a shadow of its former self.

There used to be a strong differentiation between the programmes on CNNI - referencing the era of I-Desk, QMB, Back|Story. Even Amanpour was better during its pre-Amanpour&Company days.

Such a shame that CNN has become nothing more than an outlet to push domestic news stories to an international audience.

No QMB tonight ... instead CNN Newsroom with Hala. Excellent to have a straight forward international news bulletin in the evening again

They had Hala do a half hour at the 7PM BST slot, between trial coverage. Hope she will be able to have a slot back soon.

I love that era of CNN I, those graphics and music could be used today, they don't feel out of date at all. They are clean without feeling too sterile or without any personality.

On the other thing, I don't think New Day or Early Start should be shown internationally, they really should go back to having CNN I produced newscasts in those slots. Neither should the primetime US shows that don't really have anything of major interest to International audiences, not even Anderson Cooper does what he used to do. This would be a good time for CNN I to think up a new better schedule all together.

Hopefully not going too far into rota talk but she has mentioned she's anchoring this weekend - mentioned mainly as I can't remember when I last saw reporting let alone anchoring.

I wouldn't blame Domestic really - as those shows are mainly Domestic programmes targetted at that audience but which CNNI are choosing to air. Plus CNNI pre-pandemic had 'Hala Gorani Tonight' airing during daytime in the Americas so they're not immune to show names not suited to an international channel.

Totally agree with others that the channel these days feels more like a Domestic simulcast with a few token International broadcasts. I can't see it dramatically changing any time soon but even just moving Your World Today with Cyril & Isa to where that Early Start/New Day block is would be an immediate improvement. It doesn't help that at times CNNI seems to choose the most bizarre slots to simulcast - like a bog-standard Newsroom hour or Early Start.

That said on weekends even if they are Domestic bulletins I do prefer having more Domestic bulletins on CNNI rather than the line-up of endless tedious sponsored programmes they previously had

Why would one cut out domestic programming? It's not called CNNI-without-the-US. There are so many international stories throughout the day on CNN-I, and CNN domestic anchors also have become familiar to a worldwide audience by now.

Any world stories that CNN US may cover are not covered in the same way as they would have been by CNN International. Everything on CNN US is presented from a US POV and not from the global perspective that you should get on a truly international channel - the same as the difference you see in the reporting of events by BBC World News vs BBC News UK.

It's OK to say US anchors may be known to the worldwide audience, but CNN International has a whole host of its own anchors and reporters around the world, who specialise in international reporting and know regions and international affairs inside out, who are not being used.

At this stage, I'm sure if it wasn't for the sponsored programmes, advertising and money spent in Abu Dhabi and London, they would just make CNN International a total simulcast of CNN US, with breakfillers covering the US commercials (a la MSNBC International).

I get your point, Meridian MR, no question. I'm sure CNN does too, but it does not seem to jump onto it. For the moment.

MSNBC International does exist? Really? Is there an online stream? I'd appreciate more insight since I only know the regular (US) version.
