On a scheduling note, I see there will still be instances where The Situation Room will still be two hours and The Lead being an hour beginning with tonight and all next week with The Lead on for an hour at 4pm ET (9pm UK) and The Situation Room from 5pm-7pm ET. (10pm-12am UK) Makes me think Jake will be off and they have decided that the cover will only do an hour.

They did that for decades and its no longer is a financially viable strategy unfortunately. Social media has accelerated the fact that most people check their phones and move on in the evening rather than sitting down to watch hours of news in the evening with a person sat in the newsroom at a desk. Its no longer financially viable because the viewing audiences are so tiny. Hence the rise of hosted/chat programming in the evening. CNN is never going back to that anymore as you continue to see discussion programming spread across the entire schedule rather than traditional newscasts. No matter the title of the programme the vast majority of it will be discussion rather than straight forward news. CNN is not funded with guaranteed money like the BBC or Al Jazeeera . It has to make money and what doesnt make money doenst make sense. I used to watch CNN and Headline News for hours. Those days are no longer. Its all discussion programming today. I only turn to CNN for major breaking news basically nothing else. And typically its just breaking political news. I was appalled how badly the covered the recent Israel conflict. They barely showed anything. They would dip in and out have the odd discussion here or there. But not blanket rolling coverage of yesteryear. Because it doesnt make money. No on watches and its expensive to do. So its cheaper to have a few talking heads in a studio talking about it. Sadly its not worth watching otherwise.
I'm glad Scripp's Newsy exists it's a good basic news channel.

Well then you would have heard the news that Scripps is expanding the streaming news channel. And they are opening a new HQ in Atlanta, leaving a small bureau but closing the Chicago studios and consolidating every thing there. Which is nuts to reinvent the wheel in Atlanta when you have perfectly fine studios and most of your studio presenters already live in Chicago, all which either will leave the channel or be forced to relocated to Atlanta.
The stupid thing is CNN already had Headline News which they screwed around with so much they left the door open for CBSN, ABCNewsLIVE and Newsy amongst other streaming channels. How stupid. But also the fact the channel has seemingly been abandoned and allowed to flounder rudderless. And these people that run the network makes millions of dollars a year to make stupid decisions. And clearly there is still a small appetite for traditional rolling news channel and they couldnt figure out a model to make Headline News work when it clearly doesnt anymore in these current iterations.

Or quite unfortunately that's how it used to be! They got a proper fill-in for Cuomo the last time he was off.
It does make sense to have another anchor in Abu Dhabi - Connect The World’s specialism is that Middle East region so if you’re having to present from London or Atlanta whenever Becky is off it does make the show feel a bit generic and like a glorified Newsroom.
The fill-in anchors like Lynda Kinkade will presumably still have plenty of other slots to cover like the Newsroom bulletins, Hala Gorani Tonight and One World.
This is my dream CNNI schedule now, chance for this 0,00005 %, but beautiful for a dream.

He was in the Capitol in that shot. He mostly is when they are there.
Two things I noticed this weekend. First is that Smerconish has new graphics and opening on his show (Much better looking btw) though I can't remember if it was this week that it debuted or last week. Also Phil Mattingly was covering Inside Politics Sunday yesterday and someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think that's the first time Mattingly has been on presenting cover. Thought he did a pretty decent job.
Mattingly has covered Inside Politics many times before. Brilliantly talented.
