Intriguing. I'm not sure how much you're allowed to say, but wouldn't you have to remove the set to refit a lighting grid?

Interesting move, surely it would’ve been better to move world back into it. However, glad to see it will be back in operation.

Maybe get rid of the hard baked red in certain parts of studio E?

Glad they've seen sense with Studio B - it is IMO their best studio, far better than E, so introducing robotic cameras to sort the staffing issue makes sense.

Very, very pleased to see that Studio B will not be going the way of N9, which was arguably the best news studio at TV Centre (in its final years), similar to the status B arguably has at Broadcasting House.

Really hoping this is a positive sign of things to come for BBC News... ?

I agree that B has an overall nicer set, but I do love that real newsroom view and it would be a shame if it is getting demoted to just the News Channel - especially if we are going to end up with that crappy, photoshopped newsroom backdrop on the nationals.

I'm sorry, but I just can't agree that N9 was the best news studio at TVC. I know that there were a sizeable portion of TVFers who hold a certain level of affection for it as a hangover from the cream and red days, but I have never seen the appeal. Always felt it was a cramped, dark studio with a succession of second-rate sets that were usually a poor imitation of whatever N8 was doing.

I assume this will mean a fake newsroom backdrop for the nationals? If so I hope they come up with a better one than the current one. Also wondering how the trundle will work, will it just be a pre recorded one? Or will we see something different in the titles.

Does this mean we'll see an end to the 1, 6 and 10 being simulcasted on the News channel as well?

Well N9's backdrop had the advantage of having a bit more depth to it than N8's and, during the cream and red era, they did have an actual newsroom backdrop rather than the largely show newsroom that N8 had which gave it a bit of an edge.

As you say, there were some really odd desks - the two pod desk that was introduced in September 2001 was one of those things that looked better than it worked and the badly extended 2008-style desk was never a good look - and that's without getting into how N9 got a 2008-style desk but N8 had to keep the increasingly damaged 2003 desk, complete with laptops.

And the less that is said about some of those second sets, the better!

Unless the news channel is going to switch to simulcasting World instead then I'm not sure I can see that occuring. It would require additional crew.

I doubt it - suspect some hours of the news channel may move aswell, especially with the 1pm news bulletin being part of a news channel shift.

I think a reworked E could be a far better election studio of the future than B, feeling like it is in the heart of the action. However it is very unlikely they'd effectively mothball that to be used once a year at most, but suspect B or E may be used for future election coverage with the services within them moving temporarily as required.
