With the space they have in B it wouldn't surprise me if this was a very AR heavy affair. Think about what they were attempting with the last election studio from B (which was a great effort given what they were working with but IMO didn't quite work).

I can imagine a setup for day to day national bulletins AND an event setup from the same space. Especially given that during elections and big events the national bulletins often come from those sets anyway.

So building a set exactly the same as they have in E (and A) with the cameras on circular furio tracks round the desk, but - unlike in A - instead of a screen replacing the real window onto the newsroom just having a green screen and ARing a 3D view of the newsroom exactly as it is seen from E.

In that case, why bother with the refit of B and move the operation straight into A? It could still be used for recording other reports when not being used for the nationals... My hope is they have more ambition than that. When the sets in E and C were launched they were pretty groundbreaking with what they achieved in the space and the automation. I'm always looking for the BBC to use these refreshes as an opportunity to push the boundaries.

Which raises the question, given its fun to speculate: what attributes should a state of the art, boundary pushing studio / set have?

I wonder if a permanent touch screen wall might be installed, as in the past it was added and removed from B for elections. With the video wall being unplugged I wonder if that's so it can be replaced with a higher resolution version, or it'll be something completely different. In the past the screen in the 'non-desk' area has been a bit low resolution, which has been more noticeable in elections when they've used a newsroom type backdrop. It'll be interesting to see what sort of set they opt for, as BBC Sports have shown how their AR and green screen technology have improved in recent years.

Well firstly, I’m not suggesting just a desk and everything else green as they have in A. I’m suggesting JUST that strip which is where the window is in E/LED screens are in C. So building that in A would prevent its use as a flexible green screen studio.

I’m all for new design, but that would mean redesigning Studio E to match, and I think that’s one of the best looking studios in TV - and from what Chris Cook says on Twitter he agrees.

Building a complete copy of E/C in half of B would be cheaper as they’ve already designed and built two so it would save in design and engineering planning costs.

Aha, got it, using VR to give depth to the virtual window behind. Good call.

Agree on C and E still looking great - with the exception of the catwalks. High time we stripped out those chunky bezels and put a high quality LED wall in!

No, that would be pointless and BBC News are notoriously bad at it.

What would be nice is something along the lines of the Washington studio.

Not sure why recreating the best studio they have (E) would be pointless.

And they’ve proved with the window through to Jeremy Vine’s virtual world that they are good at it.

Well they clearly need another one, so what is pointless is building a set in B which isn’t as good.

I'm guessing having B back in use also makes it easier for if/when any of the other studios is being upgraded, or is out of action for other reasons.

This is sounding more like a plan to refit, upgrade, change D, C and E more than just bringing B back online for 3 x 30 minute bulletins. I mean, it surely can't be ruled out.

New generic Newsroom background introduced on World. As so many of us pointed out, there have been no adjustments as such to the physical aspects of any studio since NBH opened. It therefore makes perfect sense to bring B back online so that what could be a very lengthy project of updating C, D and E get underway.

Again, just throwing it out there! They need B to be able to accommodate any kind of update to the other studios.

That’s what I was thinking, i think they will refurb E first it’s long overdue in my opinion
