Fit out has already started. Launch in the spring.
That sounds like an incredibly long time to strike one set and build a new one when you think about how they would change sets overnight in the hey day of main block TV Centre studios.
Granted a standing set is going to be installed more permanently, with new camera control systems to configure, and the basement of NBH is a different proposition to TVC with its ring road, but the thick end of six months sounds a lot.
Is the work required more complex than just a new set?
Yes, but there are a couple of things to bear in mind here.
Quick set/strike sets are designed to be quick to put up and store. They’re modular, built to be put together and taken apart. And they don’t always include electrics, screens, etc.
News sets are standing sets, semi permanently rigged, and are much more substantial in their construction. They usually include cable runs, lighting practicals and screens, LED or flatscreen displays or BARCO type. As a result they take far longer to install and can’t easily be taken apart.
Finally Studio B isn’t just being fitted out with a new set, it’s getting a completely different camera installation with robot technology new to the BBC. It will take time to get the integration with mosart sorted, plus the basic programming for the bulletins because their format will need to adapt to the new space.
I suspect we’ll see something very similar to what they have in Wales, not necessarily visually but with the tech used.

It took >4 weeks to install just a new lighting rig, two ceiling-mounted track cameras and three robotic pedestal cameras in Sky Sports News. Plus weeks of staff training with new systems, and familiarising presenters with new shots etc.
Pushing 6 months sounds about right for replacing an existing set, installing a new set / lighting rig / camera system (particularly if it has VR/AR tracking), then troubleshooting followed by much rehearsing. You could certainly do it quicker but not to a condition where it can withstand hours of use per day with little maintenance.
I’m just looking forward to seeing the first bulletin from the new set on that day

While it is quite a bit away, I am very excited to see what will happen with Studio B, and how the BBC will change the visual approach to the national bulletins.
The timeline of "spring" is an interesting one. Spring for the new studio. Spring for the new logo to be used on BBC News. Coupled with changes in personnel- Sopel gone from Washington, Laura K looking likely to be gone from Westminster. Even the talk of Huw moving away from the 10.
I have a feeling that the change we'll see in Spring will be akin to the May 1999 reshuffle to a degree. Full on changes across the three bulletins as well as a new look, style, feel (?) to BBC News on BBC One.

The current English regional news titles aren’t that old. being introduced in July 2019. Maybe place names could be scrapped with something completely brand new whatever THAT is?.

Well that's the really big question - is this gonna be another evolution or a revolution? Hoping for the latter, as iconic as the pips are, it's time for something new.

As I said in another thread. David Lowe's themes have become to BBC News what The Awakening is to ITN / ITV News. So in my view they should stay. Unless there is someone at ITN secretly planning to get rid of the Pearson, Hewson & Baylis creation. Then go ahead get rid of Lowe's work but if it isn't broke don't fix it.
And in relation to the red and white colours. If the app is anything to go by, yes.
It is arguably broken but I think the visual identity needs refreshing far more than the sound identity - and then depending on what direction they take make a decision with the music. They can actually have the best of both worlds with the pips - retain them but build a completely new sound identity around them, which frankly is what ITN have been doing with every ITV News revamp since 2004 at least.
I just don't want to see a cats cradle, circle formed globe or even the solid numerals anywhere within the new look. Time for something completely fresh.
