Well its a change of studio for the National bulletins, with a new Set installed and constructed.
The Studio itself is upgraded but not technically new.

So it's Studio N6 in 2003 all over again then. A year of the same until they finally figure out how to replace those titles next year.

I would hazard a guess at a combo platter of that with the added inclusion of all of the English Regions sets not being ready "at the same time" when the Nations are is a factor in this.
Don't forget Nations are having priority in this update for sets, English Regions not so much. As confirmed by Clean Feed.

They've been doing pilots with various presenters in Studio B for a week or two, at the same time as the 6 and 10 news are on air for real

This is true, but the Cardiff set is fairly minimal and most of the cost of that set is probably in the LED videowalls. Given that the new Studio B set is supposed to involve similar tech, a new set could easily be built to incorporate the existing videowalls or they could be reconfigured without much in the way of waste.

I can't imagine it being much more than perhaps adding or repositioning the furniture within the set or more likely perhaps adding some AR elements to reflect what may be added in the network bulletins.

I think there was a cryptic remark early on about the BBC News Icon shape, so maybe the set layout mirrors the shape of the 3 blocks in that, or the desk is shaped to match it.
That may explain work on the Welsh set even though its fairly new.

You think they’d just use one of the other presentation areas in CSQ. They have done before
Newyddion on S4C came from the main BBC Wales news studio at 7PM, hence why Wales Today was in the secondary/green screen news set at near enough the same time.
I do hope that, if the new set involves a newsroom backdrop, a bit more effort has been put into it than the poorly photoshopped, wrong perspective backdrop that Studio C has been using since last autumn.

I'd love to see a skyline. They couldn't do London, or use any city exclusively for that matter. Maybe a one with combined cities like GBN use on Breakfast would work? The images could keep moving throughout the programme across different locations. I think that would look good and would eliminate the risk of being 'London Centric.'
