The attack scene was uncomfortable to watch, but the build-up was poor. Everything just "happened", and there were some awkward time jumps to fit everything in. I also found the direction/editing quite poor. Obviously you can only go so far at 8pm, but it felt choppy and awkward. Hamstrung by social distancing, perhaps?
The fact it was clearly all filmed round the back of the studios doesn't help either, things will be drastically improved when they can film further afield again.

As with many things like this on the soaps, the aftermath is more important than the actual stunt which is limited both by social distancing and also by what they can get away with at 7:30

Yes - to be fair, the immediate aftermath in the second episode was superb. Heartbreaking to think this is based on a real-life hate crime.
Is it just me that thinks the social distancing coverup is awful on Corrie compared to other soaps? every scene is so obvious, even Nick and Leanne and Simon all in the same room all stood away from each other.
I know we have to do social distancing, but I just think other soaps seem to cover it up a lot better?

Yes, I have to say I find it quite jarring on Corrie, compared to what EastEnders are doing. It seems the two soaps are taking different editorial approaches to social distancing. EastEnders use various degrees of trickery to disguise it, whereas Corrie (with a handful of exceptions) are simply running with it and asking the audience to suspend disbelief, even if it makes no sense for those characters to be standing apart.
To be fair, EastEnders had a longer shutdown in which to experiment with filming techniques, and they've also reduced their runtime by ten minutes, which I imagine gives them more scope to be inventive with camera angles and plate shots. Corrie are still pumping out the same volume of material as they would pre-Covid, so maybe they can't be as sophisticated, quite reasonably.

Some great acting from David Neilson who plays Roy tonight, I thought it was good that Carla was by his side.

There's certainly a lot of single camera and split screen in EastEnders right now, which takes a lot more time to do. Being only 4 times a week and with shorter episodes will be helping them massively.
It's the random mask donning and doffing on Coronation Street that annoys me the most. No-one wears one outside, but they're always wearing one when they enter an establishment, only to almost always immediately remove it anyway.
I think Corrie have dabbled a little bit with using visual effects - one shot had two characters getting out of the same suspiciously-motionless car - but certainly not to the extent Eastenders has.
I thought the attack scenes last night were done quite well, all things considered. There seems to be a who-did-what element to it which would have precluded showing too much anyway.
Hopefully it's only a little over 6 weeks until they can scrap social distancing... though it will take that long again until we see it on screen.

Makes me wonder if the attack scenes were originally planned for 9pm episodes that traditionally air towards the end of May.
I agree about the social distancing. Out of the 3 soaps I watch Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks I think Corrie is the worst. It was really obvious during the stag and hen night scenes especially when they were dancing at the hen night.
I did like the scenes with Roy at the hospital but there wasn't much else i liked about this double episode if im being totally honest.
The ITV3 storyline with Jack pretending to regress into "lusty Jack" is another one of those I can remember from first time round. It ends with Vera realising he's putting it on and

We already saw the Emmerdale episodes described earlier in the year. I also have a copy of the Chart Show episode that the top 10 and indie chart on there was featured on, was one of the ones repeated on The Vault back in 2007.

They gave warnings that viewers may find scenes upsetting. Considering this is based on a real life event, I can see why that was necessary.
