Earlier this week, on the episode where Anne Malone was found dead in the freezer, ITV3 edited out one of the shots of her body, but not the other, which seems strange. You'd think if they thought it might be unsuitable for daytime broadcast they'd have cut out both, it's not as if one shot was more graphic than the other, unless they thought WD40 would object to the fact you could clearly see their logo on the can she was holding in the shot they edited out...
Also, it's a storyline which felt very disjointed towards the end. This is the time Kevin Kennedy had to leave suddenly to deal with his addiction issues and it feels like it was hastily rewritten mid-storyline to have Spider replacing Curly's part. It didn't make too much sense to suddenly have Spider involved in the plot.

Makes you wonder if skipping it was a mistake, but the fact it wasn't listed in the schedules seems to suggest otherwise, whereas the past episodes of Corrie and Emmerdale that were skipped were listed in the schedules (and in both those cases they messed up the surrounding episodes too which makes it more clear they were mistakes- in the case of Corrie they showed the two following episodes in the wrong order, and with Emmerdale they showed the preceeding episode twice).

Turns out it was just a mistake, got an email from ITV this morning confirming so. I'm glad as it hopefully means we won't lose any more, accidentally or otherwise!
It was tough to watch today mind, everyone reacting to Hayley coming out as transgender. Les Battersby is a truly ghastly character.
Sadly it's something that hasn't got hugely better, even 23 years later. Even with homosexuality becoming more accepted there's still a lot of transphobia about. Look at Graham Linehan for a high profile example. Still far too many arguments about people using toilets and changing rooms as well.
Mike was disgusting as well, blackmailing Hayley, threatening to tell others, constantly making cryptic jabs at her etc. to the point where she had no choice but to tell everyone else.
I am astounded at how well Corrie handled the transgender storyline, I was far too young to appreciate it at the time.

I think much of that might have been down to Julie Hesmondhalgh. I heard her interviewed recently saying that the plan was for it to be a bit of a joke storyline, but she did a lot of research into trans issues and experiences, and was determined to play the role sympathetically.

If they were doing that story today, they’d probably keep in Les’s comments, as he was supposed to be an ignorant character and would represent the views that some people may have. They probably wouldn’t have Mike making similar comments as despite running his business ruthlessly, he was supposed to be a positive and popular character.

This is an interesting point. Call it wokery
but you wouldn’t get popular characters espousing unpopular/bigoted views anymore. Not that it ever happened loads but I recall Vera Duckworth being homophobic to Sean (it was when he was a bingo caller). And most significantly, Peggy Mitchell being publicly vile to Mark Fowler over his HIV (‘you’ve got *AIDS*!!!’ etc).
They were perhaps comments of their time, but it made things more realistic. Would the Corrie residents really have stood in unison and applauded the gay kiss of the footballer and his bf the other week? There would be a few naysayers on any street.
I think one big difference if the storyline was being run nowadays would be in the casting of Hayley. I would imagine they’d only consider a trans woman to play the role now.

It’s a balance. You don’t want characters you’re supposed to like normalise sexist, homophobia or racism, yet real people are flawed and make mistakes. I’d like it to be the latter but sadly there are too many morons out there who will see it as validation.
We saw the fourth wall in Des's living room in today's second ITV3 episode- the room looked absoloutely tiny with it there! Certainly not the size it's clearly meant to be now with Yasmeen living there.
Quick question, Is that cupboard or door to another room at the end of the stairs in the Baileys house? either way it's probably leading into Kens Hallway or backroom, a bit like the Rovers toilets
