According to Corriepedia it was apparently largely to keep the episode a secret from the media, made in a different studio with a very small crew and none of the regular writers involved. It has an entirely different production code to the rest of the show's run:

Where is ITV3 up to now? Have they had the 2000 Live episode yet?
If Corriepedia is anything to go by, as of today ITV3 is up to 8 October 1999. Notably, Judy Mallett was killed off last week. We’re nearly at the point of Dev being introduced and Tina O’Brien as Sarah Platt.
ITV3 did show the 2000 live episode last December when they showed episodes from 1960, 70, 80, 90, 2000 and 10.
I’m guessing it’ll be some point next year before we see it on ITV3 again.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t show the Curly/Raquel episode. It wasn’t a spin-off but an episode like any other.

By my reckoning, next Monday will see the final outings of the classic logo and the "End of Part One" and "Part Two" captions, before Tuesday sees the start of Jane Macnaught's time as producer and the moving of the writer and director credits to the opening sequence.

They never had the dilemma with double episodes then of whether the second episode was Part 3 & 4 or Part 1 & 2 again.

They are a nowhere near that yet, haven't even reached December 1999 yet. I estimate the Corrie 40th anniversary episode will air in around 6 months on ITV3.
We have quite a few current Corrie characters to be introduced make their debut in the classic episodes over the next few months or so (ITV3 timeline) with Dev, Eileen, Maria and Sarah played by Tina O Brien to name a few. Then we have Kirk and Fiz also introduced a bit later I think, Fiz first arrived in 2001.
I dont think the Brighton episodes will feature on ITV3 as they were a spin off and not part of the regular programme - much like the QE2 and Las Vegas episodes which were video only. But I expect Raquel and Curly will definitely be shown, especially as Raquel first appears briefly at the end of the New Years Day 2000 episode before the 2 hander aired the following evening. It will be interesting to see what ITV3 do as its a 45 minute episode. Normally an hour long episode they cancel Emmerdale if its the second Corrie of the day or just air the one hour in place of 2 episodes if its the first episode of the day.
Will be interesting to see the Millennium episode.

Is that the only such type in the history of Corrie? I can’t recall another such episode. Nor a single-hander for that matter.
From memory there were Deidre/Tracey & Richard Hillman/Gail two-handers, but it has been more the domain of EastEnders. Though there was a Len Fairclough/Elsie two-hander in the late 1960s which took up most- but not all- of an episode.
The only single-hander I can think of was Dot in EE. And non-soap The Trial episode of One Foot in the Grave!
