It absolutely sucks

I'd like to know more about how a privatised France Télévisions will operate as their licence fee is being scrapped? Will they still have PSB obligations and the current ban on commercials in prime-time to help the existing private channels, or will it be a full on trip to downmarket programming and the axing of channels that aren't viable commercially like Franceinfo and the France 4 Okoo and Culturebox services?

Maybe they’ll find other places where public TV can be funded? Or maybe they’ll backtrack on the prime-time ban. Honestly, I don’t think that France.tv should be privatized. I mean, don’t they have a commercial arm, as well?

Fubo owned Molotov TV have added +1 versions of TF1 and TMC.

I fear that's exactly what they are doing

A TF1-like move for France Television would be just AWFUL.

For those that do not know, TF1 used to be public, and now it's easily one of the most brainless channels around.
Similarly, M6 is not that brilliant either; and news channels, in France, can be populist too, sometimes excessively.

I'm afraid, as France is an influential country in what it does... private channels will be happy, less competition.

An US-kind of prospect for many European countries (you know, US where PBS is barely "public" anyway) is not an exciting thing, at all

My understanding of French TV isn’t the best, but it’s a bit of a U-turn considering at one time they were seeking to reduce the amount of advertising from France 2, 3, and 5. Whilst Sarkozy’s presidency was many moons ago, it puts the motion of a French BBC dead in the water.

I believe that's an error from digitaltveurope.com. Gabriel Attal has been absolutely clear that no privatisation was planned:

Obviously they could just not keep their promise, and the whole "no more licence fee" is a very bad thing, but for now no privatisation.

Then, it's about time to remove the nighttime cap for adverts then.

Because I feel like they might not be able to sustain themselves, from now on

While it's still being funded by the taxpayer without them having to pay a television fee, I can't see the commercial competitors being for that as it'll reduce the ad revenue of the smaller groups. (I'm thinking Altice and NRJ).
