Well, if this does signal a more 'newsey' agenda, then with a two headed presentation, they'll both be lost if they continue to use the France dot two 'amphitheatre of news' set.
One wonders if they do head down the less fluff more news autoroute, then finally, they'll simlecast with Franceinfo, instead of competing and saving a few hundred thousand euros in the process.
Means I can then watch TeleMatin again via the Franceinfo YT channel!

I think they'd need to loosen the regulations on simulcasting first. The reason they were allowed to simulcast Franceinfo on France 2 last spring was due to Covid, this is why we have the ridiculous filler programme on Franceinfo from 6-6.30am while the Franceinfo studio does a bulletin for France 2 which utilises the same presenters and running order as the 6.30-8.30am bulletin on Franceinfo.

Apparently they're planning to use a new studio for Télématin, to give it a 'warmer' feel. Even though they could find more inventive ways to use the current news studio. It is designed to be used in many different ways, with two smaller tables on each side of the ground floor as well as an interview space upstairs... but none of these areas are currently used and all the programming comes from the big central table used for the 13 Heures and 20 Heures
TéléMatin had the perfect studio at the latter end of Leymergie's tenure. The move to the main F2 studio for me lost everything overnight, the large news desk and despite efforts made by the team, it still looked like a news studio for a lifestyle magazine.
I don't think it helped that Laurent didn't have much support either over the last three years from his own team, not helped that they all worked for a French broadcasting legend previously, so it looks like the best thing to do is start again from scratch.
Really happy that Télématin is shaking up its formula. COVID hasn't been too kind on it's format which is usually full of on-screen contributors due to capacity limits at the desk (which causes the show to constantly look like a game of musical chairs).
And when you thought the France 4 closure drama was over, think again: the Senate is attempting to overturn the closure of France 4 on August 20th, and relaunch it as an education-focused service airing from 6am to 8pm, with the LCN 14 space being free on evenings at nights for other channel to broadcast, either on the same space, or using another LCN.

I hope they succeed! The French Senate have definitely seen the u-turn that the BBC did with BBC Three, it's a chance that they have to take!
But isn't France 5 what is all about already?
I think they should just leave France 4 as an entertainment/younger based channel.
The obvious solution would be to let Culturebox continue as an evening channel.

I agree Kunst, I thought that Culturebox should have gone on the cultural channel which is France 5, but if by putting it on France 4 could help the channel survive then so be it

You are right, France 5's remit is not so clear anymore. The channel is licensed as a very serious culture and knowledge-focused channel with a popular and accessible presentation, and programmes like La maison des Maternelles, Le Magazine de la Santé and C dans l'air fit within the reach of such remit; however, there are other programmes, like C à Vous, La Quotidienne and Echappées Belles, that are more suited to France 2 and/or 3, and even they could be easily integrated to reduce costs (Echappées Belles could be easily integrated within France 3's Faut pas rêver because of their very similar formats). Integrating Culturebox within France 5 could be a solution, as already mentioned; better explained, the idea should be to retain France 4 as a education-focused channel (as being proposed by the Senate) and move some of France 5's more serious programmes (including their documentary strands) into LCN 14; then retain the more accessible programmes and integrate Culturebox's programming into France 5 as a strand (rather than being a part-time channel on the frequencies of France 4).
I don't know what source France TV is using on that page but Mediametrie has France 5 at 3.5% and France 4 at 1.2% for 2020 :

France 5 has never been the channel for live music and theatre, which is what Culturebox is. It has always been a channel for educational and science programming, with some children programming and newsmagazines. However, it recently started showing movies, opera and theatre in primetime.
France 5's current format works pretty well. The channel has a good reputation and good ratings.
The main problem with LCN 14 is that, as it has been turned into a children channel (under the Okoo brand), they can't seem to find a good formula for their evening programming. Splitting LCN 14 between Okoo during daytime and Culturebox in primetime could be a way to create a clear formula. However we don't really know whether Culturebox ratings are good at the moment but I feel like people will start asking questions regarding its success if the channel becomes permanent.
Catching up on Samedi Sébastien, it appears Patrick owns the rights to his old cabaret and music shows as the 'new' show is basically Patrick introducing classic editions of Le plus grand cabaret du monde which were aired on France 2 from a green screen.
