Do we know who replaces Christine or is it early days yet???.

Something I’ve been thinking for a while, and I’d be interested to get others’ thoughts… is it just me or has Look North’s (Leeds) agenda changed over the past year or so?

To me it seems a lot less newsy than it used to be, with a much bigger emphasis on non-time specific features and human interest stories.

For example, the late bulletin last night made no reference to the Batley and Spen by-election. I know there’s not a lot to report until the result has been announced, but I’d have thought a line to the effect of ‘counting is now underway… and we’ll bring you the result during Breakfast’ would at least have made them seem like they were on the ball, and in touch with what was going on. I know it had been covered in the national news, so perhaps they thought there was no point in repeating everything, but just to ignore it makes it seem like they’re not across one of the region’s biggest stories.

I also noticed recently that the murder of Sarah Everard, who was from York, got very little coverage on Look North, whilst Calendar had it as its top story on several occasions. I appreciate there’s the argument that it was a London story, and perhaps they wanted to avoid being seen to be crowbarring in a local angle. But there was certainly a local reaction which other media covered effectively.

I just feel lately when watching Look North that I’ve learnt more about local Zoom choirs than I have about what’s actually happening in the region. I actually think the programme is now fluffier and less newsy in its agenda than Calendar, which I never would have said in the past. Or maybe it’s just me?

Hull has been fluffy since it started. 5 minutes of news then 20 minutes of Uncle Peter pontificating. Don't forget didn't they have a section called "Peter's Good News" or something like that?

With working from home, I have noticed the main story at 1:30 is often still the main story at 10:30, and as a result it’s clearly a story prepared a previous day rather than actual news that has happened today

I think this has been the case for a few years now. There rarely seems to be any development of stories through the day anymore. I don’t know how typical this is of BBC regional news as a whole these days or if it’s just the way things are done in Leeds now.

I think she did two Sunday shifts IIRC back in the days when Breakfast at the weekend came from N8. Looks like it was September 2004…

It's the same every year with the Great Yorkshire Show. Tyne Tees being in Harrogate allows viewers in parts of North Yorkshire that isn't served by Calendar to see coverage.
