Nice to see some updated refreshed opening title shots for LN (East Yorkshire & Lincs). I specially like final shot of Hessle RNLI lifeboat jetting towards the Humber Bridge then into the Look North title card. Nicely done.

Amy and Paul are there tonight as well, as were Lara and Jon on Calendar

I’m not entirely sure Amy reading the rest of todays news, including news about fires and deaths, in front of the crowd behind them, was a great editorial decision. Surely they could have thrown to someone like Ian White in the studio

It always seems to be the way these days with most regional programmes with the round up of the rest of the days news done from the OB. Surely there is someone in the studio as standby anyway?

Michael Billington had the rest of the day’s news for calendar in the studio

It was particularly awkward tonight due to them having an audience and it being a fun occasion. Imagine if the audience wasn’t paying full attention and laughed at the wrong moment

Having said all this, it was a good OB otherwise, and nice that they ended with a montage of Harry’s best moments at the GYS. I’m always impressed when Paul does the forecast completely from memory with someone else changing the graphics as well.

It’s probably no worse than when the national news comes live from Downing Street or College Green with reports of death in Ukraine accompanied by the Benny Hill Theme being played by a protestor in the background.

In both cases though, I’d agree that returning to the studio for ‘the rest of the day’s news’ would be preferable

As previously mentioned, there is presumably someone back in the studio (with their feet up on the desk, Tim Wilcox style) as a standby in case the live link goes down, so I don’t see how it’d be a cost saving not to link back to them.

Slightly off topic, but I’ve always been surprised Paul never presented the programme (in the days of two presenters). I presume simply his choice but I thought when he was with Amy on the sofa on Harry’s tribute show how natural it looked.

When Owain Wyn Evans was on Look North Leeds in 2019 ( before one presenter and Reith look). He presented the lunchtime bulletin

It’s probably because he has no interest in doing so. Paul comes across as perfectly happy to be the weatherman on Look North until he retires. Whereas Keeley obviously sees herself as a wider general presenter, and Owain is fast climbing up the ranks of the BBC

Today’s lunchtime edition of Levy Live came from Leeds

There was a graphical glitch on the weather pictures during the Yorkshire Look North this evening, the BBC Sport logo was randomly overlaid over the pictures!
