My earlier comments about the continuity into the final edition of High Road was wrong, this is it. I wonder if C5 will be as subtle with their last ever episode of Neighbours announcement.

I actually hope whoever is on con duty on BBC One at 1.45 that day makes a subtle (or not subtle) reference to the show, considering it was the BBC who brought it to our shores in that afternoon slot. They've got form for doing it - https://tvhome.co.uk/bbc-one/2020/07/08/1345

It deserves a well produced documentary. What I think it'll get, at best, is a cheapo talking head show with someone like Chico reminiscing about when he used to watch 'Karl and Sue'. All while playing blocky YouTube clips with the UK Gold DOG badly blurred out. Who knows, I suppose it's tricky to celebrate all the best bits of a series that you're directly responsible for no longer being on air.

Great to see so many old faces coming back though. Sounds like they have a very good Exec Producer who is genuinely a fan too. It wasn't that long ago I think they barely referenced anything from the past. I'm very intrigued to see how it all plays out - I know it's Neighbours but surely there will be some logic in so many people suddenly turning up!

It hasn't aired on 10 in over a decade so it's not shameful in the slightest.

I don't get how airing it on 10 itself would be "shameful" at all. Their morning show "Studio 10" is going quite big on it too and live from the set on the final day of filming on Friday.

It's shameful in the sense that 10 offloaded the show from their main channel to begin with but can't get enough of it now because it's ending.

Not really, if something isn’t rating it wouldn’t make sense to air it on their main channel. They are discussing it with the nostalgia factor and the fact that a small Australian soap became a worldwide hit, rather than as the show is today. I think that’s how most people here see it too. It would have ended a long time ago without Channel 5 as is clearly evident by its ending on 10 Peach too.

But if they just let it die quietly on the channel it's been airing on for a decade that would be pretty shameful too.

It's not unusual for a show coming towards it's end to get a bit of a boost once the axe falls and get more publicity and be given a higher profile slot by the broadcaster.   I've no doubt for example that if the BBC axed Blue Peter it's final episode would probably get a higher profile slot than 5pm on a Friday on CBBC.

Shameful for a different reason though, for example if 10 allowed it to die. If Neighbours had continued on 10 in the same vein with help I would have said it was a shame it ended that way, which is different.

The same would apply. It could be argued that getting rid of the CBBC block contributed to shows ending and the BBC's record on programming for younger viewers is shameful. Not many people will be aware that CBBC is mostly repeats but more isn't made of this because kids can get content elsewhere and it's so far down the EPG for anyone to notice. They are also probably too busy watching their shows that replaced the CBBC shows.

I really don’t understand the point your making. Why would Channel 10 have had a duty to keep Neighbours on their main network, went it’s never really been a big deal in that country? Without a UK broadcaster I very much doubt it would have survived beyond the 90s.

I’m sure people in Australia will watch just because it’s the last episode thus justifying the reason they’re putting it on 10.

But there is nothing shameful about them relegating a show, that isn’t that popular to their secondary channel.

I never said that 10 should have kept Neighbours and have/had no problem with them moving it. I've explained what I consider shameful.

Well as Neighbours enters It's final day of filming in Australia I guess it's an opportunity for us to pay tribute to all of the cast who appeared on the show past and present and all of the crew who produced an aussie icon for both Australian and UK audiences, there will never be another programme like Neighbours, and even when the programme comes to an end in August, one things for certain, Good Neighbours will always be good friends. I thank the cast and crew for becoming good neighbours in our living rooms for 37 years and wish them all the very best for the future.

The cast are going to be touring the UK early next year as part of an official farewell Neighbours convention type thing.

As you can probably tell from my username, I will be wearing a black suit today. And waiting by phone just in case Paul Robinson calls with a very important business deal.
