We use to get quite a lot of scenes of Mark Brennan, Tyler etc around the pool which of course was the real back of 4 Pin Oak/24 Ramsey St. No fake backlot for that house at the Studio complex.
You used to see the pool of number 24 a lot in the early years, even with scenes on the back deck occasionally. I think it was around 2015 or 2017 the pool started to feature regularly again.

I'm quite surprised actually that all the classic soap repeats have lasted so long as they have after ITV3 brought back corrie in 2017. They're clearly pulling in enough numbers. UK Gold used to show it back in the day just like Eastenders so the parallel does exist. A bit of extra income for Fremantle of tapes that would otherwise rot in the archive, cheap enough repeat fees (presumably) for Drama to pay, and Somewhat of an existing audience there to take from Ch5 lunchtimes.
I'd love to see a repeat run of Brookside from the start! Could More4 get onto that one?

Although scheduling wise I think C4 is the only one where it could fit I think commercially taking a show that doesn't make money for C5 and replacing a repeat of The Simpsons or Come Dine with Me, which presumably at least break even in the slot, doesn't make sense. However perhaps if C4 were set to lose The Simpsons and they had a slot to fill it would be a different story.
Similarly BBC3 at 7pm would work so well especially with Emmerdale moving, but the costs just can't be justified.
It would - but that'll be no good if BBC One moves EastEnders to 7pm to avoid clashing with Emmerdale and Corrie.
As for The Simpsons, I don't expect Channel 4 to lose that any time soon, despite Disney+ existing. I can see Sky losing it though.

So the same few episodes which have been out there for well over a decade, then. I remember watching them on Virgin's on demand service around 2007-ish.
So the urgent cast and crew meeting is taking place at 11am Melbourne time, midnight tonight in the UK, so by the time we wake up tomorrow I expect we'll hear from several cast members putting a positive spin on everything, and hopefully a leak from what's been said from one of the junior runners or someone like that from the show.
How about a joint investment from 2 UK broadcasters, (one who gets linear rights, the other On Demand streaming and back catalogue), along with a higher funding percentage from Network 10, and even asking Rte Ireland, the New Zealand broadcaster and the Belgium broadcaster to chip in more. Its in all their interests??
You've got to wonder how close we have to get to the 10th June (the last day of filming) before Fremantle or Network 10 admit defeat.
I've never been a neighbours fan, but I do wonder if, perhaps, one problem for the show was, it was on five times a week. Back in the 80s, Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale Farm, Take the High Road, were only on twice or thrice a week. Perhaps if it had been on less times a week, say even just two, then you could have more time on production of each episode, more time to make quality storylines, and also make it more of an event.
Back in the 80s, the idea of a five days a week show was novel; I believe another Australian series, The Sullivans, on ITV, was only shown three times a week.

Not happening and not in their interest if it loses them money. Many happy to frame C5 as the bad guys now but without them it would have been axed a decade ago when Ten dropped it from their main channel.

Definitely. In some ways i'm surprised it has lasted this long. If it is running at a loss then there is no way Channel 5 can continue to fund its production. I think Australia gave up on the series a long time ago and probably never expected it to last this long.
People will lose their jobs but something has to budge and Neighbours is done. The idea that it could be shown on BBC3 is what is wrong with the industry today, particularly here in the UK. Too much over-sentimentality for programmes and I'm not sure the target audience for BBC3 would be glad with being lumbered with yet more content that never was intended for them to begin with.
The end credits also show that the State of Victoria also fund Neighbours. I wonder if they will have anything to say about the shows future (mainly from a jobs prospective as Neighbours is a breeding ground for young talent both on and off camera).
Apparently they paid £21m a year for Neighbours compared to £3m for Home and Away. Baffling though considering they'd have known the possible likely outcome of contract negotiations that they dumped Home and Away out of it's slot for a show they knew they were likely to axe a few weeks later.

Before 1986 it was very unusual for any soap to run 5 days a week. Most of the evening UK soaps were twice a week, Crossroads had aired 5 times a week when it started but was down to 3 days a week by the 1980s. Most of the imported soaps ran twice or three times. Most ITV regions aired The Young Doctors Mon/Tues and Sons and Daughters Wed-Fri in the 3.30pm slot. Both of these were half hour soaps not 1 hour cut into two. A Country Practice was the only one at that time that was 1 hour and only Yorkshire and TVS cut it into half hour episodes before the late 1980s. Yorkshire didnt start The Young Doctors until 1988 so showed ACP half's at 3.30pm on Monday and Tuesday when most others were showing The Young Doctors. Neighbours was one of the first to be shown 5 days a week when it started on BBC1 in 1986. By the early 90s there was a lot more aussie soaps being shown, as well as Neighbours we had Home and Away daily on ITV plus many regions were also showing daily half hours of another Aussie soap straight after the lunchtime Home and Away plus at 3.25pm. Then there was Prisoner late at night which all regions showed at their own pace. This was always about 50 minutes long and never cut down into half episodes.
