You're living in dreamland. BBC Studios is a commercial operation, not a charity. They'd be no benefit to them at all in getting involved in a show that is not financially viable.

Yes, BBC Studios simply aren't going to make a show that few will watch. Especially for a commercial channel who'll want decent viewing figures so they can sell adverts and get a return on their investment- W might be owned by BBC Studios, but the money still doesn't appear out of thin air, and they aren't a charity. They don't make shows for the sake of it.

1.2m viewers wouldn’t automatically move to W – not close to that. And it’s wouldn’t be free content.
I know some people in this thread have said "it was always rubbish" - but it must have captivated the public's imagination at some point given the enormous viewing figures of the early 90s (and please don't give me the whole "there were only 4 channels so people watched anything" BS - if that was the case every show on TV would have had those figures)
I think there is a place for ‘rubbish’ telly. Sometimes you just want something that is mostly a bit silly.
For me at the moment it’s actually Eating With My Ex. I can’t have every programme I watch being Line of Duty or Lost in Space or whatever, it would be exhausting.

Much like when Neighbours moved from BBC1 to C5, that entire audience will not follow the show to a channel several pages down the EPG. They're certainly not going to swapping Dave for W in the EPG any time soon. For a show that's loss-making for C5 I'm not sure why it would suddenly become "a smart business decision" for UKTV when it would get fewer viewers and bring in less income than it currently attracts.
It's worth saying UKTV certainly doesn't have deep pockets. Taskmaster is a great example, it was arguably a channel-defining show for Dave and none of their originals (bar Red Dwarf) have come close to rating as highly. But the series became too expensive for them to continue with. Whilst it might have looked like C4 (and BBC1 which also bid for it) outbid them, UKTV actually couldn't afford to commission it any longer. Consider that it's an unscripted comedy show compared to a far more expensive drama and you can see why they would never dream of getting involved in Neighbours.
Apart from repeats of The Bill and a few films, W appears to be entirely non-scripted. I expect they'll use the channel to fill the hole Really left and just fill it with more cheap factual.

Yes, Richard and Judy went from about 2m on C4 to launching to 200k on Watch which quickly dropped to sub-20k. Removing the paywall probably doubles the potential audience but even Ant and Dec on a digital channel 20 places down the EPG would likely lose more than half their audience.

Sorry 'This is UTV' but that sounds like something a deluded (The) Apprentice candidate would suggest.
I think Ten announcing NCIS Sydney (see previous page) is telling. It would presumably fulfill their Aussie drama quota, meaning they wouldn't have to continue Neighbours on their own. Also the NCIS franchise has a more global audience, with it probably being shown in other countries as well as via Paramount+. Given this it'll probably cost Ten less than Neighbours, and potentially give them higher ratings (possibly even on their main channel).
It's worth saying again, if, and I stress IF Neighbours does end, it may be a good idea to then, say three years later, have a reunion mini series, of three episodes, seeing how the characters have moved on. This happened with Dynasty, when it ended, it came back for four programmes, called "Dynasty The Reunion". And, as someone has mentioned above, they released a Brookside DVD a few years after that series ended, looknig at some of the characters now.
