I'm guessing there may be a couple of instances in the BBC days where one in the afternoon went out but not in the evening (or vice versa) because of breaking news potentially? Did the 5.35 one air on Sept 11th?
Erm Yes, Neighbours moved to BBC Two that afternoon, there was a clip on Tvark, which features the wave ident and announcer Beccy Wright. It aired after CBBC which also moved to BBC Two and Becky said something like ''Apologies if you been expecting BBC Two's usual afternoon programmes, Awash with Colour, Ready Steady Cook and the Weakest Link will be back tomorrow, now tho BBC Two goes down under with Neighbours''.
I think it was a fitting end that had clearly been planned very well given that they had only 3 months to bring it to a close.
I will have to watch it again as I missed a few things, I didn’t realise Sonja was in the segment when Susan wondered what friends would look like if they were still alive. I saw Doug Willis, Madge and Fin Kelly. I think this worked really well as a way of bringing back dead characters to celebrate the ending.
I think no. 24 was the only house that remained for sale, all the others decided not to sell. It implied Mike would be buying it. I don’t think Scot and Charlene were there to buy it, they were just back visiting?
Well done to all those involved in making the programme now and in the past.

Yeah there were occasions either only the lunchtime showing or the evening showing went out, normally during the Euros or World Cup. It would also regularly move to BBC Two for Wimbledon, Olympics etc. especially when the UK were further behind Australia.
Home & Away would be the same from time to time - the evening showing would normally be a goner if an afternoon kick off went to extra time.
I watched the last few episodes for nostalgia purposes as I've not seen it for 20+ years. Eventually I started to recognise some of the characters.
That 'megamix' of theme tunes at the end seems to have been cut together by someone using a 1980s cassette recorder.
Spotted T. Oliver as the conveyancing solicitor on an envelope which is a nice nod to Lou and his actor Tom.
As well as the end shot being different, there was another edit. Steph Mackintosh was credited as Sky Mangle returning on the end credits but wasn't in it - but I've read she was in the video montage to Toadie in the Aus version but not in the UK version last night. Strange.

I might be misremembering this but I've a feeling for once such event it was moved to 7pm for a short period too.
Of course for it's first decade and more it barely missed a day, airing at random times on Bank Holidays and over Christmas as they tried to close the gap in transmission. I think it eventually got to the point the BBC could afford to, and indeed needed to, take breaks in transmission.

The theme tune medley at the end was different last night. The Australian version included all of them while in the UK the Greg Hind version and the 2013 version was missing. Also in the scene where they’re watching the videos a line was cut from Karl where he says to Toadie that he is a son to them.

This final week did have a feeling that it was originally written with the intentions of sending the Robinsons off to New York and his old mates turning up to wave Paul and his family goodbye. It does feel that the writers heard of Kylie and Jason's return very last minute and it was shoehorned in, but, hey, it really didn't matter. I do feel Guy Pearce did a great final stint and good on him for doing a few scenes again.
As we all move on with our lives, so do the residents of Ramsay St. I do wonder how much longevity there is left with our soaps in the UK, to me, they are built for the family and friends unit. I know we all know this anyway. All sitting round a TV watching together your favourite soap, it just doesn't really happen anymore except maybe at Christmas.
As for Neighbours, for me it was never appointment to view or "must tune in" TV. It was very much the ideal show that you could catch by surprise any place, any time and be instantly tuned into the drama. I just grew out of it and it didn't fit in with my working life. I think that is the case for many. We all have our Neighbours era. It just no longer had the appeal it once did. Will it come back? I doubt it, don't you?

The 2007 theme (Sandra de Jong version) was also missing from the UK edited end credits, and they used the 2002-2006 (Janine Maunder) theme twice.
So the final credits in Australia had
8 of the 9 themes used, only the jazzy Barry Croker version 2 (1989-1992) missing.
The final UK end credits had
5 of the 9 themes used, with Barry Croker version 2 (1989-92), Greg Hind (1992-98), Sandra de Jong (2007-13) and Daniel Boys/Stephanie Angelini (2013-2014) all missing.
Having re-watched the last episode this afternoon, I note there was one other line which did not make the cut in the UK and that was from Beth sending love to Ned, followed by a close up of him. I felt this was a particular shame as it seemed like a direct response to Ned Hall sending a video message to her on the one show a couple of years ago.
I get Channel 5 had timing but considering all of the cuts only amount to about 30 seconds, its a shame they could not have increased the run time slightly, they could have easily cut 30 seconds of the following programme, Neighbours made me a star as this had quite alot of repetition in.
I think many of us have seen this as a sign of the demise of soap but whilst there is no doubt the way TV is watched has changed significantly I wonder actually whether it's just the beginning of an end for a generation of soaps and there is a need for them to give way to a potential new generation of soaps which the teens of tomorrow will take ownership of in the way the teens of the 80s and 90s did with the Aussie soaps plus the new British soaps of the time.
We're probably a few years off that and I doubt it would be half an hour a day but just wondering whether a new dawn in the genre might emerge in the way Home and Away and Neighbours replaced a generation of Aussie soaps as they emerged in the 80s and grew in the 90s.
