On a side note, that Today Show logo and theme tune at the end of the segment sounds and looks like something from the 1970s not 1993!

It is actually a part of the Today theme music package from the 1970s, composed by arranger and conductor Ray Ellis. Although, by then, no longer in regular use (since superseded by The Mission), it was by then used semi-regularly for specialist segments.

Back to the subject, there was an additional set of idents introduced in 1996. Unlike the former, these idents were produced in-house and were used in tandem with the original 1993 set of idents. In 1997, the idents were modified to include the NBC.com web address. Here are two reels of the entire ident set, which would be used until the 1998 idents took over that fall.

After they introduced their own DOGs in the late 90s. Idents would be by then restricted to the end of the prime time window and/or in other scattered timeslots throughout the day. And yes, CBS brought back their idents as part of their new brand strategy under the ViacomCBS umbrella. Both ABC and NBC do not tend to use idents frequently anymore, except for local station identification needs.

I have some clips from early 2000s showing idents had been replaced by 5-second trailers. I guess they scrapped all idents in around 2005 with the closing branding, which was shown before the credit in late 90s.

You kind of count this as NBC's current ident (before shows):

A response to a branding outcry from US broadcasters as viewers associate their shows to Netflix than the original broadcaster
https://www.indiewire.com/2018/10/networ...202009891/

Quote:That’s why, at the start of every program on the network this fall, there’s a five-second animated peacock that morphs into the words “NBC Presents.” It’s an extra piece of branding to nudge viewers to remind them: Hey, you’re watching this show via NBC.

“The idea came from the general sense of wanting to maintain an NBC brand identity across the various platforms,” said Ron Hayes, NBC’s executive VP of on-air marketing and creative. “We’ve quickly been moving from a broadcast network to a multi-platform entertainment company, and we wanted audiences to understand that the peacock is equally at home on their TV sets as it is wherever else they may be choosing to watch our content.”

ProSieben Fun has updated its look today with a flat logo, and it's not just them.
Kabel Eins Classics has updated their logo as well.

Any ideas why the promo for "Wayne" hasn't been dubbed into German while the rest has?

The promo for "Wayne" hasn´t been dubbed because they show the original version of the series without dubbing.

Interesting, and they don't even show it with subtitles burnt in then? Says a lot about how widely spoken English has become there.

I honestly love that new brand music for ProSieben Fun. Packs a punch and fits in pretty well with the aesthetic of the main ProSieben channel while still very much doing its own thing.

Here are the two channels' new looks in regular ident form:

The third sibling of this set of pay-TV channels, Sat.1 Emotions, was rebranded back in 2019:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T56P7Tumec
https://vimeo.com/391252935
That channel has switched to using the same typeface (albeit in different weights) as Nickelodeon started using (in the US and many international markets) with their 2017 rebrand.
Turns out the websites of both ProSieben Fun & Kabel Eins Classics both still use their old logos. Both websites use a different interface to the sites of their many sister channels, which implies that they have not updated it in a while.

ProSieben Fun is actually 9 years old on the 3rd of May, having replaced similar channel Sat.1 Comedy on that day in 2012. It is primarily a channel dedicated to comedy & films (although for some reason repeats of The Masked Singer Germany also air).

Kabel Eins Classics broadcasts classic films & TV series, mostly from the USA.

Actually, Sat.1 Emotions replaced Sat.1 Comedy on that day; ProSieben Fun only has a similar content profile, thematically, to the former channel. It's not the direct channel-space successor.

It feels both British and American at the same time

I find it odd how the alternate logo originally introduced in 2015 still retains the original Gill Sans typeface rather being "Reithed" for the Presentation refresh... ?

I agree. When I read that it had been refreshed I half expected to see the BBC logo used for Select. The Gill Sans split logo doesn’t really go with the rest of the package imo.
