Looks better than red boxed version that currently use. I think they should use boxless BBC News logo for its news channel and its news bulletins since 25 April, which is clearly BBC News department logo.

He could have just said 'Payment Card', thereby sounding less patronising. Many towns/cities in the UK have such facilities.

Yes, most people either use Apple or Google pay or their bank card, but Oyster card is also still used because it is the only way to apply travel card or discounts. Or at least it was the last time I used one. And you can even still buy paper tickets at the moment. I might also add that Oyster cards are a fraction of a second faster.
London isn't the only UK city to use such cards although obviously they are not called Oyster card.

Plenty of people outside London won;t know what an Oyster card is, so explaining it briefly and clearly in a report like this will assist them.
As has been stated he will be keen not to assume everyone knows because that will be seen as London-centric.
Yes he could have just said Payment Card but I think it's more informative to do what he did.
I'm not from London, (I do know what an Oyster card is though), and I don't like everything being London-centric, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to find out these things (if I didn't already know). Increasing knowledge is a good thing.

I think Oyster cards are pretty well known, quite a lot of the population will have visited London in the last 15 years. You could imagine a gag on Graham Norton mentioning one, and expect the viewers to get the joke. The ‘something called an Oyster Card’ made it sound like Nick himself had no idea what one was.
I know most people use contactless bank cards or phones now, but they wouldn’t have been able to have a bit of fun/photo opportunity with the ticket machine otherwise
