The BBC has started posting on its TikTok account, as announced earlier today:

BBC Media Centre Wrote:BBC News is also launching TikTok accounts exclusively dedicated to videos about the war, in Russian and in English, from today. The handles are @bbcnews and @bbcnewsrussian. TikTok has fast become a crucial platform for information (and disinformation) about the war in Ukraine.

The two posts are a summary/trailer of the BBC's reporting on the Ukraine crisis so far, and a report from James Waterhouse, who is in Kyiv. I'm not sure if it is filmed especially, but if it isn't I think it fits really well.

The BBC News Russian account, also mentioned in the quote above is on TikTok as well, but has no content yet.

Note: As far as I know there is no way to tell when an account was created on TikTok. I am assuming these accounts are new because that is implied in the announcement, and I have not seen them before. Sorry if I'm wrong!

Somehow, I just feel that BBC World News (News at Six) was just weird.

... but the one that showed up after Reeta was Anita McVeigh. :lol:

I think they've been lit in pink since the launch of the newsroom backdrop last autumn - I assume it's supposed to match the lighting of the newsroom to make it seem more like you are actuall there (though if that was the goal they should really have done a better job of the backdrop).

When I saw the 6 on the news channel in the last few days, they also have Maryam Moshiri in front of a green screen during the regional opt for some reason.

I know this is where the sports tease usually goes on the network feed and I'm not in the know by any stretch, but it does seem odd they go to the effort of recording(?) that little tease with a presenter who then never reappears rather than having the studio E presenter reading an extra headline or doing the same tease live.

There is a Joanna Gosling version of that filler too which was used for the first few days when the invasion started.

The Maryam clip is used when World is taking the top sequence of the national bulletins. Normally this would be a sport clip but the pictures they use aren’t usually cleared for international TX - and at the moment, sport is often getting limited airtime.

It’s usually not that pink I did notice the other day on the other side of studio c it was also pink so I think it was just accidentally put to screen

I'm guessing BBC World News is not simulcasting BBC's domestic newscasts today, since they would most likely prioritize Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori's release from Iranian prison.

Would a change like this in the US mean that World News America would be shown at 9pm GMT in the UK from October through to March? There's no political will to stop the GMT/BST clock change twice a year in the UK, so presumably, as we're seeing this week and next, it'll cause an issue for the NC's evening schedules every autumn and winter.

I was thinking this the other day. Other than Focus on Africa, World News America is the only time shift that BBC World News still does (having ditched the morning/afternoon shift in 2016). It will be interesting to see how the BBC will react to this.

I would suspect that you are right and that Context and WNA would swap for half the year, but I could also see them doing two editions of WNA at 2100 and 2200 UKT all year - allowing US partners to take the one that is also 1700 ET. The BBC News channel has been perfectly happy to take WNA before and it was a fixed part of the schedule from 2007-11.

Of course, all speculation should be accompanied by the note that the law hasn't actually passed yet and that a previous attempt to do this some years ago was defeated before implementation.

I think bbc world news should be renamed to bbc news, during the trailers it keeps on flicking between bbc world news and bbc news logos, keep how it’s funded and the international agenda on the global channel but call it bbc news on screen, then it’s not too obvious to the viewer when it’s simulcasting, and ties in with the app, I think it makes sense.

Makes sense to me. I've always thought BBC World News was incredibly clunky.
