Between the two London Mayoral debates, the BBC one was better but I think having a longer running time and being prerecorded helped.

LBC had Khan and Bailey head-to-head in their Westminster studio for an hour this morning

The studio used for the Manchester and West Yorkshire Mayoral debates appears to be identical too.

The mayoral debate that went out on Cambridge while having a similar set, appears to be different, possibly the Cambridge studio?

The West of England debate came from the Points West studio.

Also note that the London debate was a BBC England production rather than Juniper who produced the earlier Politics London.

I’m guessing it’s one set that’s been to four places in the past week for recording the debates in London, WM, Manchester and West Yorkshire. Same OB and Videoscreen companies in the credits, pretty much identical set. Not that hard in each region to find essentially a four waller in some building I’d guess.

I think it might be the same studio. In the WM and London debate clips on the previous page, there's a very distinctive duct/part of the studio (on the right on the wide shot) that has a few equally spaced metal strips. I wouldn't be surprised if they had it all set up for one day and filmed them all back-to-back like a game show.

Yes, more I watch them, the more I agree actually. I’m just surprised they got all the politicians to travel somewhere central in the middle of the campaign!

Cambridge is an interesting one - has a sub region ever done an opt out while it's parent region stayed with network before? I guess the Channel Islands might have for their elections.

I know in the past BBC London has played out PEBs for mayoral elections at the end of the regional news, are there any for these elections going out on a regional basis?

BBC One HD was showing Escape to the Country so I wouldn’t be surprised if the places which don’t have Mayoral elections showed that instead.

The opt was showing across the entire Look East region though the Freeview EPG for the east half was wrong saying Escape to the Country was due to be shown.

Pretty sure Oxford has successfully opted while issues have prevented Southampton from getting South Today on air on a few occasions, which is more or less the same thing albeit not as intentional!

Yes, Escape to the Country was indeed shown on BBC1 in all regions that weren't opting out for election debates.

Er, I'm not sure what you mean by this, but as in the last campaign, London are indeed doing different PEBs from the rest of England. As for sub-regions opting out when their parent doesn't, I think Hull might have done this before. I do know when there was a series of programmes about rivers a few years back, Hull showed the one from East Midlands rather than Yorkshire, because it was more relevant to the region.

Is there another slot next week for any regions that have more than one mayoral election in their area?

This applies to Yorks, NW & NE&C at least

Only one 'metro' mayoral election for BBC Yorkshire and NE&C this time around. South Yorkshire is next year and North of Tyne 2024

I mean that London isn't the only place with a mayoral election, are the other regions with such an election playing out specific PEBs for that election?
