That was an awkward watch - and did feel a tad unnecessary from Naga.
She could just easily pretend to like ice cream and nobody would be any the wiser - it’s not like she was having to eat it. Or could’ve had some ‘chat’ with Charlie (e.g I’m not the biggest fan but Charlie I’m sure you and everybody else on the team would live to have a scoop or two). Or she could’ve gently sidestepped it - saying something like ‘I’m sure our viewers are now suddenly desperate for a nice cold drink or ice cream after that, thanks Hannah’ and then move on.
I mean the incident is worthy of a pile-on on Naga but equally you don’t get Huw Edwards going ‘well I’m glad Liverpool are out the Champions League’ after a sports report.
Plus while many would say it should just be between her and her employer and people should mind their own business, given Naga is just outside the top 10 of BBC presenter earnings there might already be a bit of resentment to her from some people (unfair as that is) especially from those at the ‘DefundTheBBC’ end of the spectrum. Therefore her being quite cold and snappy to a fairly young, fresh-faced reporter trying their best to keep it lighthearted isn’t going to help the perception of her.
Awkward Naga moments are the best part of Breakfast. She doesn't sit well with the fake, we all love each other, morning crowd it seems.
You could see Charlie was very unimpressed with how Naga had treated the reporter. The body language between Charlie and Naga was frosty.
Rather ironic she doesn't like cold food considering the frostiness in that clip.
I watched the clip now and all I honestly detected was a bit of time filling and typical banter between Naga and Charlie. The OB part was made a bit more awkward by a slight delay on the line.
Suggesting that Naga should have lied and pretended to like ice cream is beyond farcical in itself!

Charlie and Naga have been working together for the best part of a decade now, so I'm sure Charlie is well aware of Naga's sense of humour and how she works. If they were that frosty together presumably one of them would have moved on a long time ago.

Charlie and Naga have been working together for the best part of a decade now, so I'm sure Charlie is well aware of Naga's sense of humour and how she works. If they were that frosty together presumably one of them would have moved on a long time ago.

I often wonder just what it is about Naga that makes people dislike her. If only I could put my finger on it.
Ah the joy of internet discourse. So anybody who thinks in this particular example Naga could’ve handled the situation better is tarred with the ‘racist’ brush. There almost certainly is an element of that with some of the more vitriolic responses online but equally people shouldn’t feel they can’t make valid, reasoned criticism if they feel it’s merited. I normally have no issue at all with Naga as a presenter and like that she’s not as permanently upbeat as some others on Breakfast but that incident wasn’t her finest hour. You wouldn’t have have whoever is doing the news bulletion on BBC One saying after the sports bulletin ‘well I find golf a bit dull’

Although I think the point that appears to have been sidestepped by most taking issue with this exchange, is that Hannah threw back to Naga by saying “don’t you wish you were here” (or words to that effect), so it seems (to me at least) very reasonable that she’d respond by saying she didn’t like ice cream. I think like others have said, the clear delay didn’t help how it appeared on-screen, but this strikes me as well one of the most storm-in-a-teacup things I’ve read about since joining TVF 12 years ago - and it’s a long list! ?

Exactly. If Charlie didn't like working with Naga, he could have requested to move to the front end of the week when Bill Turnbull moved on in 2016. But for some strange reason, he has stayed put at the back end of the week (for the best part of 15 years now).
It's a strange partnership but certainly more interesting than the Mon-Wed borefests.
