I still think even though I am in a minority they should not show bbc breakfast on news channel, breakfast isn’t exactly rolling news to begin with, it’s more feature led rather then a hard news agenda.

Exactly! Naga has a 5LIVE show she presents all week. Of course it would have been offered to her before Sally Nugent. As for Charlie, he's doing a 3 day week like Dan, Louise, Sally and all those before him.

Unless you were familiar with the recruitment process in this instance, how can you know with certainty that the role was formally offered to Naga?

It seems reasonable to say it might have been, but I don’t know how you can say with any certainty that it was simply because that’s how it has happened previously.

It’s fine to make assumptions, but I think it’s important to say when they are, as opposed to facts.

Wouldn't make sense to make bespoke bulletin for news channel but think simulcasting World would be preferable, people still have option of BBC1

Well when Breakfast was launched in 2000 it was known as Breakfast from BBC News and it was back then a news programme but since Jeremy Bowen and Sophie Raworth stopped presenting it, the programme changed.

Well when Breakfast was launched in 2000 it was known as Breakfast from BBC News and it was back then a news programme but since Jeremy Bowen and Sophie Raworth stopped presenting it, the programme changed.

You clearly don't remember the era late 80s/early 90s when it was more or less NewsNight AM !

Few news channels go in with a "hard news agenda" at breakfast anyway - most mainstream news channels go for something more accessible in the morning. News isn't just politics, business and world affairs - entertainment, including interviews, and community stories have a place in the running order too.


Back to Breakfast and do they usually show regional news between Christmas and New Year. If they do I'd be very surprised if it isn't pulled, especially with the news that GMB will now not air at all next week due to their own issues.

Some regional news has been reduced - London and the South East news were merged this morning.

Re news - the one thing I think they should do is at least have half hour news headlines - even if just a minute or so. Like not a few people I would suspect I'm not watching at the top of the hour, but watch near the half hour for the local weather. What I then dislike is no news headlines following that.

As has been floated many times before, the news channel could alternatively simulcast BBC World News. Given that joint bulletins between the two channels has become normal practice at other times of the day, it wouldn't be entirely out of place. But the difference in this case would be having two BBC News products "competing" against each other in the same slot - I'm not sure that makes much sense. Moreover, I suspect the potential audience for rolling international news at 6-9am is pretty low.

Agree - the lack of BOTH headlines/news summary is one of the weaknesses atm. Especially as presenters still occasionally say 'headlines coming up' as they head into the local news!

Yeah, but its tone is not why its simulcast. One of the key reasons Breakfast was created was to cut the cost of having BBC News produce two breakfast news programmes at the same time for the UK audience. I also think it is partially signed on the News Channel as well, which is obviously a valuable service for some (which BBC Two used to provide in the 90s for 15 minutes a day).

Of course, some of the simulcast could be switched to a BBC World News simulcast - I think you could make an argument for simulcasting the 0600 hour, but I really don't think that the BBC News channel team put much thought into what is an isn't simulcast.

Another one who’s not a Dan Walker fan, sadly. I’m sure he’s a nice enough chap but can be annoying with his laugh and the way he calls the show “BBC Breakfast” every 5 minutes (just say Breakfast!) Not a fan of Sally Nugent either, a bit egotistical. Much prefer Charlie Stayt, he’s the only one who seems natural, although I’m glad he’s always stayed towards the back end of the week. Don’t think he’d suit Mon-Wed full time.

Well that was interesting, they had a reporter in a Sydney based newsroom gallery and on one of the screens it looks like they had a feed of bbc breakfast right towards the end of the feed, Dan Walker got up and Nina was stretching her hands and then it came the bbc north Salford coloured bar test cards then it went to a clock of some sort I presume to feed cleans of the breakfast reports back to NBH, it’s odd it’s appeared as far as Sydney, Australia.

I am guessing if you have access to the fibre network you can dial into any newsroom gallery in the world.

EDIT: It’s New York they’ve thrown back to the correspondent and that screen is showing black level :-(
