I was surprised looking back at some of the early coverage of Diana's car crash (before it became an obit) that the astons were referring to her as "Princess Diana", which was never the correct title, even during her marriage. For the same reason that Kate Middleton didn't become Princess Catherine upon marriage, and that there is a Princess Michael of Kent.
Yeah, she's just Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. But why is Princess Diana wrong? I would've thought that when Charles becomes king, Kate would become Princess Catherine, as she'll inherit the Princess of Wales title.
Isn't it that only those born to the title - like Princess Anne - use Princess before their names? She was Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales before the divorce. Diana, Princess of Wales was the correct title after that point.

Was this only aired on Saturday on World? The domestic version was aired twice only, one before The Papers (not the ending of the Ten) and another was at 00:00.

I believe Prince Philip received the "The" as an exception. He was, for a matter of hours before his marriage, HRH Sir Philip Mountbatten.

Can anyone direct me to the most lengthy Youtube clip available of the BBC's overnight Diana coverage. It seems to be have been reincarnated in dribs and drabs on Youtube over the years, it would be very interesting to see it all sometime to see how it unfolded in detail.

I wonder if they'll just schedule that episode this coming Friday, as it was due to be a best of special anyway.
Also interesting to note that some BBC podcasts have been 'paused' or released repeat shows (not sure if it's all podcasts have been pulled).

Prince Philip actually didn't become a Prince for over 5 years
after Elizabeth ascended to the throne, when letter patent were issued by the Queen in 1957 making Philip an official Prince.
His title from 1947-1957 was just HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and it was only after he became a Prince in February 1957 that he was given the title HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
