Dozhd were blocked yesterday in Russia, but they are the last independent station in Russia, and have survived for 13 years during the Putin era of Russia. They have broadcast many a critical piece about Putin and covered the many protests that we have seen, so they have been managing to work within the law whilst still maintaining a more critical stance on Putin.
It's vanished from Sky's EPG now. Still on DTT Muxes 6 and 7 at time of posting
The ban has become effective at 1PM UK time and the feeds are being switched off one after another.
Sky have actually jumped the gun and have removed RT from the EPG despite the 28 degrees East feed still being available at this time.
So much for all those contractual obligations that never existed.

I personally don’t believe anything RT says as truth in this conflict, but I’m also very sceptical about our medias reporting of the conflict too, hence why the likes of AlJazeera are beneficial to have for a more neutral perspective.
The idea that there is a ‘western’ spin to apply, though, is just incredibly misguided. There is objectivity but those broadcasters you cite report on facts, in a factual way.
Yes it's not even really an East versus West thing, there isn't really anyone on Russia's side on this (well unless you count those on the extremes like Bolsonaro and a lot of the US Republican Party).
There's no western angle, there's just an 'look at this terrible thing that's happening' angle, some things you can't be neutral on you just have to report the facts as best as you can

Not that they'd matter if they did, think of all the things that Russia interests have been cut out of in the last week, all those were contracts that have been broken or voided.
RT France has stopped broadcasting its normal programming. Only showing prerecorded documentaries it seems. With the EPG labelling it as "programming interruption", although the news flipper at the bottom is still there.

(RT France is actually a different channel from RT International, with a full staff working from Paris)

Presumably should Sky want to (and i doubt they would) there would be nothing legally or technically to stop the channel being carried on Sky Glass should they have a feed of it incoming to Sky
Minor point - but it's been said on the Ukraine coverage thread that the transponder (at least on 28.2E) is leased to Globecast, so they'll be involved too.
Presumably there is a clause in the contract between SES and Globecast about not uplinking programmes / channels that go against laws / regulations.

Exactly. But that hasn’t kept numerous people here from claiming RT can’t be switched off because of contracts, Ofcom rules or whatever other random obstacles.
Sky has and always had the ability to terminate the contract as it is a “simple” commercial agreement for services. The only redress for RT would be to sue Sky for breach of contract. That would incur higher costs than the value of the “loss” so even if they would win in the very distant future, they wouldn’t gain anything.
Ofcom would not care as the only stipulation for EPG providers is that the agreements themselves need to be non-discriminatory.

Nothing stopping them routing the channel through a non-EU uplinker either, but I doubt they'd be able to find a willing partner either way.

I think Ofcom are just deliberately dragging their feet until the actual satellite feeds cease (due mostly to the EU directive) then they won't be subject to any nasty-grams from Moscow. The fact that the DTT feed will require their direct action, will be lost on those 'a-far'.

How would that work when all the dishes in the country point towards an orbital slot which only contains satellites owned by EU based companies?

Technically it could be possible, albeit convoluted and expensive. With that in mind, why bother going to all that trouble and expense to circumvent a ban only to not have the output seen because no carrier will list it?!

And who really wants to watch it enough that they'll fork out to get a dish pointed at a different satellite slot. Not that there's many in view from the UK that aren't based in the EU - mainly those owned by Arabsat, Thor, Turksat or Badr
