It's such an odd channel. I looked at one of their bulletins earlier today and their presenter was a Brit (seemingly originally from North West England). His diction was similar to someone new reading their first bulletin on That's Manchester.

The back half-hour "documentaries" and chat shows seem to be more polished in terms of their propaganda and 'alternative' viewpoints. I guess like many cable news/views channels they have a set of commentators who hone their act, yet could be dismissed as just an individual opinion to the regulator. With this channel though, the opinion is wild and it just so happens nobody disagrees.

Also like other channels of talking heads, it's really boring to watch. Die-hard viewers only, I think.
15 separate OFCOM investigations related to the same channel on the same day has to be some kind of record?

I watched one on fascism earlier that had production values of a straight to home DVD.
Interesting article on how RT is being dropped and its reach curtailed across the world.

YouTube have just blocked RT & Sputnik in Europe entirely.

Even blocked in the UK which isn't a EU country.

It is a European country though.
Posted in the Ukraine thread but it appears that you don't need Ofcom to cut off RT.

The Guardian is reporting that because the satellite operator that feeds RT to Sky is based in the EU, RT will disappear from Sky at the same time as it is cut in the rest of the EU.
They say they don't know how it will affect Freesat (surely will be cut there too) and Freeview.

RT France are planning to appeal the decision in the French courts.

Is that legal?

Freesat and Sky use the same signal surely.

Of course it is, the satellites are owned by Astra SES, a company based in Luxembourg. They can do what they want with them.

They can but it doesn’t mean it’s not breaking a contract etc.

I note YouTube has not blocked RT outside Europe (we are assuming the U.K. is included despite the fact YouTube GB is under the US company for data privacy contract at least) so it is not the choice of Google, rather them just implementing the EU ban. Should the block in that case apply then in the U.K.!

Just to add, I have tried to access the RT channel on YouTube and get a not available in your country message.

I don’t know if it’s normal but RT seem to be showing a US feed without adverts.
I don't think a country invading another country has much of a leg to stand on when they argue about the legality of international law.

Maybe they haven't got the "EU sanctions" part.

They're worse than crying babies
