That is an awful mix of the Sunday Morning theme.
Ouch. Everything seems like a step backwards to me. The title of mornings as a plural doesn’t sit well with me, where the singular would suffice. The theme tune is horrible, I’m not familiar with the Sunday morning theme, but that one is not nice at all. The set looks good, but I still feel that it’s a departure to what they currently have and is over reliant on screens.
Have they got access to live windows on to Times Square in the new studio?
I dont think its bad. It has been used for on DECADES on CBS. I think its smart on CBS part to draw from the CBS SUNDAY MORNING DNA. I just hope they dont ruin the legacy of CBS SUNDAY MORNING. So clearly they just kept the TIMES SQUARE Election studio and they just added some modifications. I couldnt see CBS News building that set and then dumping it just to temporarily use it. And its very likely that Norah O'Donnell will use it when she is in NYC. I do like that CBS Evening News, CBS FACE THE NATION and now CBS MORNINGS all have similar sets. CBS was always awful in having their shows on different sets and everything looking so different. I think this bring the news division together, but with out doing a SkyNews or BBC and making all the shows look and sound the same but with slight modifications. I think CBS has been very successful in revamping the look of the entire network and implementing their new look/logo across all the divisions. They still need to update CBSN and of course the O&O's group needs major help but hopefully we will start to see moment on that front.

I don't understand why they're moving to Times Square if they're not going to use any of the windows looking out onto it – if you're going to fake it, why not fake it in a larger, cheaper studio away from TS? Sofas and desks in front of big screens creates too flat an impression on screen – that's why places like the BBC create fake/virtual backgrounds of newsrooms or skylines for most of their programmes like Breakfast that use that setup. Everything about that set looks fake or artificial, and really takes away from the great things about their current studio/set.
So they will be on Times Square but they are not going to show any of it. The set looks nice but what's the point? The current set still looks better and actually has a bit of the busy Times Square vibe, with those windows visible on the sides. The new set might as well be somewhere in a bunker. But maybe there are some parts we haven't seen in the video. Overall it all looks very Today, from the desk to the orange everywhere.
As for the music, it reminds me of the Dynasty opening theme which can only be good, but maybe a bit too dramatic for a morning show.
As for the content, it looks like they are desperate to become GMA, especially with the new host. Replacing an experienced newsman with a sportsman while trying to be the show with most news in the morning , does not make sense. Now Gale can be the main news person, I guess that's what she was after..... Tony better watch out.
They say it will be more urgent and more fun, I expect a dedicated wacky weather man and cooking segments to follow soon.
Well seeing as VIACOM CBS wasnt using the studio that was left dormant when MTV moved out, why not use the space. They already own the building and had the studio in place from the election. ANd its very likely they will have beauty bumpers of Times Square in and out of the programme and you can bet they will have live shots used on the big screens behind the anchors. It gives them way more flexibility. And GMA has a huge purpose built studio and for their main programme, its not facing the windows either. So I dont really see the point of being Times Square but I dont see anything wrong with not using the windows.
And as for the theme its ICON. Everyone knows it or has at least heard it. Maybe not internationally, but its certainly well known in the US and Canada. So just because its unfamiliar to your ears doesnt make it inappropriate or too dramatic.
The "CBS Mornings" title looks more like they will reverted to late 70s and early 80s, when all morning programmes at CBS were titled as "CBS News xxxx Morning" or simply "CBS News Morning" following "CBS News Sunday Morning" at the time. They sunday morning program will also be renamed as simply "CBS Sunday Morning", which was a era when Charles Kuralt was the host of the programme and is the era most people knowing the programme with that name.
Note: There is a similar name programmes that so-called "CBS News Saturday Morning" that launched in 1996 and lasted until 31st October 1999 to replace Saturday Morning cartoon lineup in similar nature as Children's BBC or Children's ITV in the UK prior to the digital switchover. I assume people in the US don't know what the "CBS Saturday Morning" is, whether it is cartoon or news programmes.

I'm gonna go slightly against the consensus, but I think it looks quite nice. I never really warmed to the current look.
Anyway.
I think the 20 year rating success for CBS Sunday Morning is a great legacy to building off. Incorporating the logo and the theme is a nod to its legacy. So its unlikely they will be adding cooking segments and music guests.

I really didn't expect them to lean so heavily into the CBS Sunday Morning logo and theme, although I guess it makes sense given that show's popularity.
The new name doesn't really make any sense to me. If they want a suite of similarly-named shows across the week, the name they've got now would actually fit better.
The set looks pretty good, even if it's very screen-heavy. I like that it's consistent with the DC studio, and I'm sure it'll be very obvious they're in Times Square when they're on air - just as it is on GMA.
I'm not familiar with the old theme tune, but the new tune sounds like a messy arrangement of trumpets and saxophones. Imagine waking up sleepy, and the first thing you hear on your local CBS station is this. It's an intro to a breakfast programme, not a high-pitched morning call.
“CBS Mornings” sounds a bit generic too: it's more like a department specializing in daytime programme arrangements instead. Perhaps an advantage of this name change is no more confusion with ITV's (unrelated) same-name show?
Alas, the set and graphics have some promise. The set is warmer with the sofas and wooden walls, the latter having a nice touch of the dissected CBS Eye. It's also nice to see the logo follows the corporate rebrand: always found the current bright-yellow Eye jarring for some reason.
I wonder if the 7th will also see a revamp of CBSN. The YouTube live stream has a logo slide in a font that isn't currently used by the channel on air, but matches the CBS Evening News and now CBS Mornings.
