I don't know about you, but noticed as CBS had a Special Report this morning showing President Biden's UN speech, they had that bug. I feel they should for news programming outside of mornings, kept the old CBS bug on the right or be like ABC & NBC, having custom news-specific bugs, to look more professional considering the circumstances & also it looks better with the news graphics (sans Mornings) remaining the same.
CBS did have custom news-specific bugs (or DOGS in other countries) on CBS Evening News and CBS News Special Report from 2009 to mid-2013, i think. After that, bugs were reverted to general use for all programmes.
With respect to what other CBS affiliates have done over the years during the morning hours: I live in a market that isn't big enough to be an O&O station. We went through a big station affiliation switch in 95: ABC to FOX, FOX to CBS and CBS to ABC. This CBS station has tried everything under the sun, much like CBS, to increase news ratings. They were the former FOX affiliate and only had a nightly 9pm newscast so they had to build a news operation basically from scratch to support the amount of local news required for a CBS affiliate that wants to be competitive.
As I said they've tried everything in the morning; first they aired CTM live from 6-8 CT with local news airing before. Then they switched back to the traditional tape-delayed broadcast from 7-9 when it became The Early Show and aired local news from 5-7. Nothing has clicked.
I read about this years ago and some CBS station owners claim they can only do so much with the lead-in they get and blame the network news division on their poor ratings. CBS in turn will point to the poor lead-in they receive from their affiliates as the issue. 60 Minutes and Sunday Morning seem to be the only bright spots for the news division. I don't know about Face the Nation.
The sad thing is this station finally axed its entire news operation right before 9/11/01 and went about 15 years without any news in their schedules and their ratings improved. They spent their budget on top-rated syndicated drama, comedy, entertainment and talk show programming instead.
As was discussed in a previous post regarding whether the US has enough demand for 3 network morning shows that are very similar; we are a city of about 120,000 and these affiliates serve a total tri-state area population of around 357,000. Lack of demand could be the issue here as well. There are 5 local stations that all broadcast a minimum of 6 hours of live news a day (some much more on their sister stations as the ABC affiliate is now a duopoly with the CW and this CBS station is now a duopoly with FOX so both provide several hours of extra live news content to the CW and FOX stations.) Only the ABC and NBC affiliates garner any measurable news ratings so the CBS/FOX duopoly that brought news back after 15 years is still as unpopular as before.
The CBS network non-news programming is quite popular here so I'm not sure if it's a lack of demand or failure to connect with the audience but something is causing viewers here to click over to the much more familiar ABC and NBC local news teams. Those teams have been established for many decades so it could just be the connection and familiarity.

O/T but that just highlights the difference in local markets in the US and UK and how one can sustain 5 local commercial channels delivering 6 hours a day of content in a market measured in low hundreds of thousands whilst London can barely sustain an hour of news on two national networks and one on a so called local network in a city of millions.
A few weeks in, I'd say CBS Mornings is definitely delivering on its promise to bring a 'Sunday Morning' feel to weekdays. Yesterday they started the 8am hour with this 8 minute-long interview feature on the musician Brandi Carlile, which could easily have gone out on a Sunday.

I'd say moving Anthony Mason to present these culture features was a good move as he suits them really well.
It feels a bit like the 8am hour is the main hour (or at least what they most want to be known for), with the 7am hour going through the motions with the usual news and pop culture stuff.
Apart from the Eye Opener at 8, they don't seem to have any news after 8. Do GMA or Today?
As we see with the repeated complaints about GMB not hitting the headlines at the top of the hour is some random musician talking about their faith what the CBS News audience want from their breakfast show though?

I think Today just goes over the headlines and top story.

I guess it depends on their lifestyle. The kind of thing that works on a lazy Sunday morning (and CBS Sunday Morning isn't really a breakfast show as it's on after 9) probably won't work on a weekday morning for anyone who's got the telly on in the background while they're getting the kids ready for school.
But, for anyone who's able to have a more leisurely start to the day (nowadays including anyone without kids who works from home), it's a refreshing alternative to the usual post-8am morning show fodder.
Looks like they have went back to the old CTM eye opener music, It's a shame as the newer music was really good in my opinion. But that piece of music will be 10 years old come January.

May have been a mistake but unlike you I'm happy they changed it - much prefer the old one.
Yet they keep that awful intro.

They also used it today (the 12th) so it might be permanent

I like both piece of music, but doing this means they have a mess of an opening going between both the new into tune then the old music. They need to either need to go back to the newer theme or work the older theme as the intro too.
I quite like the music used for the 8am Eyeopener (if that is still used):

The score resembles the opening titles and is more calm compared to the old 7am, and ends with the CBS sonic logo.
As i predicted. They eventually was going to change the background graphics to reflect the location. In a similar fashion to GMA which does not use a vwindow of Times Square behind the anchor desk, but instead has long used graphics or screens, CBS Mornings finally followed . Kinda boring shot but they wanted to clearly get the CBSViacom HQ in the shot, which has very little ads in comparison to the surrounding buildings.
