Am I the only one who loved this studio? So familiar yet so versatile.

A true chameleon of a space. So versatile, so familiar but so new each and every time.

I loved N9 - it was my favourite news studio at TVC. I always thought N6 and N8 were claustrophobic by comparison. I don't think N9 was very pleasant for the newsroom staff to work in, though, as it was without windows.

For me N8 was more "Newsroom in TV Studio" and lacks an air of authencity, if that makes sense. Whereas the "TV Studio in Newsroom" in N9 always seemed more authentic and "real".

Strangely, N8 was mostly surrounded by open plan newsrooms and office space but the "studio" was fairly enclosed by the set design and never really showed off the newsroom enough. I know after 2003 you could see the newsroom but it was very subtle through the frosted glass.

N9, despite being an enclosed room, actually felt more airy because the newsroom was much more clearly visible on screen. And even during the 2004-2013 frosted glass period, it was still more visible than in N8.

Was it me or did the newsroom in N9 get darker and darker as time went on, they switched those circular lights off on the side which made it darker, it was fully lit when BBC News 24 used it.

How far was it from N8, I think someone said through the doors and down a couple of steps to N9.

There was also some very strategically placed mirrors which helped, particularly in the earlier iterations, make the space look a lot bigger than it was.

This also just reminds me of the first time I heard the joke about this being the bumper car desk. Couldn't quite look at it the same afterwards, even though it was one of my favourites.

I too have been trying to figure this out. I think N9 may have actually been in this room, in Stage 5, a short walk from N8 in the newsroom area of Stage 6, as per this floorplan:



Not certain of course never having been there myself, I think the small breakout room labeled "2522 Office" could have been the gallery, with the studio oriented towards Stage 6 — but if someone has details I think this would definitely be interesting to know. The Red and Cream look of N9 looked particularly fantastic, great example of what's possible with a basic office space and great set designers.

Yes I think that’s the location of N9. Twitter users of a particular vintage may be mildly interested to know that 2268 and 2270a is “The Filling Station” (aka Killing Station).

I think the framing issues was interesting because the guests had to sit in the middle it was only a thing when you had the occasion which was rare in world bulletins you had two main presenters, in N8 the guests were on the side of the desks so that quirk never surfaced on screen.
