Does anybody know when the final morning BBC News summaries were broadcast? I know that the last 1500 summary was on 21st December 2012, but I seem to recall that the two morning summaries were withdrawn a few months earlier. Unfortunately they aren't listed on the programme index after the switchover from genome to standard BBC schedules.

I've checked a Radio Times from mid-December 2012 and the two morning summaries are still listed then, so I think it's safe to say they ended at the same time as the afternoon bulletin.

Going by the quality of that, someone's actually got hold of the BBC archive copy! Would have been only a few weeks before the end of the mechanical clock as well.

Thanks for checking, though it appears that I'd got it completely wrong. Consulting the old BBC National News thread from TVF it seems that the morning headline updates continued through until the move to NBH, outlasting the 3PM bulletin. I don't know where I got the idea that they went first from.

Yes, diving back into my Radio Times archive that does seem to be the case - the final day the morning bulletins are listed is 15th March 2013, the last weekday that news came from Television Centre.
On a very, very nostalgic note - for the classic era of Doctor Who on the Programmes section of the BBC website, each story has excerpts from the relevant 'Programme as Broadcast (PasB)' documents which include listing of all music played for it and the surrounding programmes.
Looking at the
Daleks' Master Plan PasB, it appears that 'Newsroom 1', which lasted until the Venetian Blinds were introduced 40 years ago this week, was introduced on either 1/1/1966 or earlier in that week and replaced an earlier piece of library music (JW100) named 'Newscast' by an R Hanmer which had been in use since at least late 1963.

What time were they in the end? I thought they only had one at 11am.

That one and another just before Bargain Hunt at 12.15.

I have a vague memory about that last 3pm summary on the 21st which hopefully someone might be able to confirm. I know for certain there was a bit of a panic in the few minutes before it was due on air that it might not able to go ahead because of an issue the production was having. I
think but can't say for 100% that it was indeed dropped with the announcer apologising and introducing the "news from your area" which was due afterwards.
So it might well be that the last 3pm summary was actually on the 20th.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone happen to have a decent quality copy of either of these tunes they would mind sharing please?
