On the topic of the hoop, wasn't the original plan to use it as some sort of giant ticker but it wasn't suitable for it when installed...or am I mis-remembering the plans?

I seem to remember that, but I could be remembering one of the hypotheses positioned by us over at the blue place.

I'm guessing that'll become slightly easier to do once Studio B comes back into use, as the work won't be visible during national news bulletins.  The News Channel / World simulcasts can utilise C.  That would just leave the non-simulcast News Channel hours, for which they'd presumably have to either put up with scaffolding in the background of E or decamp to another studio (if available).  Obviously there would still be the disruption in the newsroom itself, even if the on-air output disruption wasn't that noticeable.

Given that I assume that the merged channel is going to come from Studio E, I expect it'll be getting a new set soon. This will obviously involve decamping and E not being in use for several months. The hoop can easily be fixed or replaced during that time.

I'm not sure using Studio B for 90 minutes a day will make much difference.  It takes a great deal of time and planning to relocate people and their desks to a different part of of the building, and then erect scaffolding.

Perhaps, if later this year the hoop is no longer relevant as a feature of the branding, then it's not worth repairing the 2 broken sections.

Am I right in thinking Studio B's set will be using the current BBC Bulletin branding on screens or on the desk and lighting etc?

The national bulletins are not adopting new branding in advance of the BBC News/World News channel?

There was a plan, when the first phase of Broadcasting House was opened, to feature the memorial on the roof of Peel Wing at the start of every main bulletin. By the time the whole place was finished and the TV bulletins moved in it had been forgotten

Yeah, I always thought that was a shame. Even now they open the Ten with a live shot of Portland Place every night now you still can't see it as it's behind the spire of All Soul's.

Speaking as someone with a lot of experience of facilities and new builds, you’d be amazed at the lack of foresight given to future maintenance requirements when this sort of work is initially done. It tends to be a different team of people who plans stuff out to those who then do ongoing maintenance, and they never seem to speak to each other.

The Washington studio really is a very good model

It's also a design you imagine could be scaled down for the regions, plus on a national level probably work in a revamped E too. However as none of those in the know have made reference to the Washington set I'm assuming they've gone in a different direction.
