I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t either Ben Thompson or Jon Kay, I’d put my money on Ben Didn’t Ben move away from Breakfast so he could spend more time presenting World Business Report? Irrelevant really given he moved away from a business/fill-in role rather than a lead presenting role.

Will be interesting - the job advert only went out yesterday I think so it could be a while.
I know they like safe bets, and I can see why, but part of me hopes they take a bit of a risk and go a bit left field. Although reading the job ad, I’m not sure there are that many broadcasters who would tick all the boxes!

Well given that they haven’t barred females from applying, I think it’s safe to assume that it’s a possibility.

I don’t think Dan Walker was the obvious choice when they hired him. I might be wrong, but I think he’d only ever done the sport until they tried him out for a week presenting after Bill Turnbull’s departure, obviously to test out his suitability in the role.

To me, Dan Walker was never on the radar as a possible presenter prior to Bill Turnbull's departure. And he went "straight in" to directly replace Turnbull on his Monday-Wednesday shifts, with no public "test out" beforehand (especially as Sundays are off-limits for him).
Given the dearth of internal candidates - and the question marks surrounding them (though nothing to do with their ability) - I wonder if the BBC may put out feelers to Gamal Fahnbulleh of ITV Granada. Someone may well have mentioned his name previously on here, but he would be a very good shout. Being local, there would be no relocating/excess commuting issues, plus an appointment like that would address the issue of a lack of a black face as the main anchor on a flagship BBC news programme (and before anyone mentions Clive Myrie, he doesn't have a signature news presenting gig, like Sophie Raworth on the Six or Huw Edwards on the Ten).

Clive Myrie is undoubtedly tier 1 now in the news team and even discounting Ukraine coverage I bet he does more evening bulletins than the other two now.
Looking to Granada an interesting theory but feels like with Gamal being relatively new and also with foot in the door with the network team it may not be the time though it's a big gig to turn down.
Thinking of other North West faces though has Tony Livesie ever done Breakfast?
