Part of the deal to get Russell T Davies back as the showrunner was the production move of studios. Bad Wolf Productions didn't want to use Roathe Lock studios and preferred their own production base, so in a way it comes handy for BBC Studioworks to sell off the site, which had only really been used for Doctor Who.

I still think it's a huge mistake the BBC giving control over Doctor Who to Bad Wolf (Sony). Depending on the deal this could turn into a Spiderman situation. And what's wrong with Roathe Lock? Probably want the studio retinal money. I know RTD was good but why didn't they set up a sub company with in BBC Studios. That way creative control would be with that company but the BBC would own it. Madness.

In any case, the key players in the Bad Wolf series are the same people who helmed a hugely successful period of the show previously, so I'm not as concerned as I might have been.

It's what deal has been made.  Will the BBC own any of the new monsters? Do the BBC own the props and costumes?  What money are Bad Wolf getting from sales of the show globally and merchandise?  It's the finer detail I am worries about.  Don't for get there was rumour of a Whoniverse.  Do Bad Wolf own those shows?  If so Bad Wolf can use the Whoniverse to make lots more money.  The BBC might not own them out right those shows could be co owned.  Bad news if the BBC is trying to make money for it's self in the future.  It's rumoured Bad Wolf are spending more money per episode then they are in it for the bigger picture here.  It will be like Big Finish.  They will pay the BBC to use the rights but the shows will be owned by them.

These include 4,535 sq. ft of production office space, set and prop storage, wardrobe and hair and make-up rooms.

Is it just me confused by this.   Are they selling the studios lock stock and barrel, or just selling the space - so retaining ownership but leasing the studios?

The BBC is letting BBC StudioWorks rent the studios out on their behalf is how I read it.

The BBC will still own the Doctor Who IP but it'll just be made by Bad Wolf. It's no different to how Mastermind is owned by the BBC but is licensed to Hat Trick and Hindsight.

This is where the public and commercial side of the BBC gets confusing - I assumed BBC Studioworks was set up to handle all of the studio arrangements for the BBC, though IIRC there was an issue in Scotland recently where BBC Studios were setting up something (Kelvin Hall?) which would effectively compete with BBC Scotland who still manage Pacific Quay.
