I'll be honest and say that I don't know how to feel about this; given the Chibnall era has ruined my interest in Doctor Who for me, apart from the odd episode such as Fugitive of the Judoon.
Personally, I'd prefer Jo Martin to become the 14th Doctor, given she came closer to being The Doctor in one episode than Whittaker has managed to in her entire era, mainly due to the awful writing from Chibnall and Co

Olly Alexander though seems a perfect choice - indeed I'd say he's probably too good an actor for the role.

No, not yet. Probably because, tbh, I don't think there'll be a propper 14th Doctor anytime soon. I think after Jodie's rumoured final 2 episodes next year they'll do another multi-doctor special for the 60th in 2023 as a finale and put it on hiatus for a while.

I think Jodie will do her final two specials next year following the eventual broadcast of her 3rd series, with the second special presumably set to feature The Doctor's regeneration. So I guess it'll be No.14 who will see the show into the 60th anniversary.
Picking up on what [mention]Blobs[/mention] said about the 60th, in my view unless Chibnall is gone by then, I can't imagine an anniversary special on the scale of the 50th - with a multi Doctor story - given how damaging his time overseeing the show has been to it. I don't know who they would bring back for multi Doctor story, hopefully the Fugitive Doctor, and maybe either 11 or 12,
I still think that after last series, which rated very poorly, the show either needs a revamp or to just stay off air for a good three or four years. It’ll do it the world of good in my opinion.

I partly agree with you, in the sense that they almost certainly won't go for a straight white man next. I disagree that the next Doctor will definitely be a woman, though, but there will undoubtedly be something else about them that breaks the mould - either they'll be a person of colour, or trans, or gay as per the rumours about Olly Alexander.
I'm not advocating casting in this "ticking boxes" way, but as you say I think they'll want to avoid the impression of failure after stepping away from the comfortable, traditional white man casting.

It's been heavily rumoured that the series will be six episodes, with episodes 7 and 8 held over for specials in 2022, but no confirmation of that either way today.
As a self-confessed "classic whovian" I am seriously disappointed with the show. Now I want to make clear that this isn't a slur against anyone but against the show in particular. It's lost its way. It's basically pissed on its history and its fans by the ludicrous "timeless child".
Why? The reasons escape me. Maybe its socio-political or maybe Chibnall and others wee being total dicks.
I think whats needed is get the regeneration out of the way and take the show off the air for a couple of years.

Trailer was a bit threadbare, but that is understandable, as they are still filming the remaining episodes. However the trailer did not give me much to get excited about. They are keeping a lot of this series very under wraps. In the Comic Con event which went online tonight, Chris was so tight lipped, he may as well have sown his lips closed.

TBH, I think there is an element of 'ticking boxes' but personally I don't really mind that. I think on screen representation all of kinds of Brits is important but, as a middle aged white bloke, I hate the way some spin the casting of someone like me as "pale, male, and stale". It's a little bit insulting but that's by the by.
As a Who nerd myself, I was against having Jodie as the Doctor when it was first announced because it was outside my comfort zone for the show..
But, when I saw the first episode, I loved her and her companions but didn't like all the "fam" slang.
I am intrigued to see how John Bishop will be. I think that was a genius signing.
I would have loved Idris Elba to be the new Who (and James Bond for that matter) but there's not a snowball's chance in hell of that, unfortunately.
