I wonder sometimes whether he was deliberately provocative. Here he is in 1983 having an argument with Gary Newbon due to some incident in a football game that the ref didn't see and the cameras did.

Other examples of him going off on one for whatever reason are on YouTube but of course he was on TV-am right up until the end of 1992 so presumably he didn't cause too much trouble for them over the time he was there so....
