Took like a week to fix... Meh~ There's now some white lines inside the red circle spinning around, on the design perspective, I don't see any strong relations with the OS brand...

Kudos to them for managing to come up with *something* that could work within the existing titles so quickly. Thank goodness the titles have such a simple, 2D style. Something more complex would have been a headache to rework.

EDIT: The presenter referring to the programme as "O.S." when throwing to the 1925 break felt conspicuous, now that the logo no longer shows those initials.

The new OS logo is just... garbage. What the actual hell is this? It doesn't even match the beats at the end.

I suspect the agency / BBC Creative came up with a number of ideas / designs before settling on the previous incarnation. It could just be that this is the one that came second in testing. Polish it up and ship it out.

Looks like they've stopped trying to represent an "O" and an "S", and have gone with just an "O". Which I assume is short for "O M G W T F?"

I don't like either. The whole new look /music is bland and boring, especially compared to the previous one.

No it doesn't. Until now it only simulcast from midnight. So showing the 11pm Newsday is new, and yes, doesn't make sense.

I think opening of the 11pm bulletin on weeknights since March 2020 with "this is BBC News, with the latest headlines for viewers in the UK and around the World", or words to that effect, has been a bit of a giveaway that BBC World News has been simulcast on the NC at 11pm on weeknights since March 2020. At one point, even the 10:30pm Paper review was being simulcast on World and in the UK.

Back on topic, has any attempt to distinguish the 9pm (UK time) hour from the rest of the output now been dropped? It's being presented by James Reynolds tonight with the newsroom backdrop as a regular World & NC simulcast.
I get that Christain Fraser is most likely now on leave for the summer, but there doesn't seem anything particularly special about the 9pm hour, to distinguish it from the rest of the NC/World output since Katty Kay left.

As for the new logo the O is clearly there, and I can just make out the top part of an S but yes, it’s not clear. It does however go with the rest of the titles and isn’t half bad for something done so quickly - if, as someone else said, it wasn’t already produced as one of several options before they went with the Scottish Opera one.

I'm not understanding the hate for the revised logo, nor the fact that seemingly nobody else could immediately see what it resembles...

...which suits the "outside source" concept perfectly.

The fact that it's still circular obviously means that it can still be equated to an "O", but the lack af any definite "S" means that it's clearly no longer intended to represent the programme's initials (you'd either represent both or neither, not just one or the other).

I was just about to post a reply to this thread on this topic. Would be sad to see the 9pm format weve seen for a while go completely. It still seems strange that there is no double headed presentation given there is a presenter in Washington preparing for WNA anyway. No Christian, no London backdrop. Weve occasionally seen Ron Christie as a guest contributor, which makes me think the team behind the programme is still the same...

I wonder if the casual viewer has noticed the logo change, I’ve never seen a logo changed so quickly ever.

The World Service equivalent of the programme is simply called BBC OS, I presume the Maryam was interchanging the two.

There is a fair amount of similarity, for sure.

Don't see what all the fuss about is to be honest. It's a decent logo, no need for the amateur dramatics to be honest.

I have no real strong feelings of either, but of the two, I prefer the new logo personally.

Agreed.

Imagine how ugly a whole typeface in the style of how the fat white "S" of the previous logo would look. It's like something from the 1970s.

If you watch really carefully, the animation already had moments where all/part of the thick red circle would briefly become thinner red-and-white concentric circles as it was whizzing around, even though it resolved into the "OS" logo.

This seems to indicate that the "wires inside a spool of thick cable", which is now more obvious with the revised finished logo, was always part of what the circle was intended to represent (at least during the sequence if not in the final resolve).

Which would perhaps support the hypothesis that the "new" logo was already designed before the previous one debuted on screen, and was already the "2nd choice" out of a few options that were considered during design and development.
