Yes, and at that point they stopped the silly two sprinkles malarkey. They opened The World with a simple headline vamp and "The World" titles. I guess the name change was to get around the fact the original bulletin had been known by different names on BBC Four and BBC World respectively.

Just as the whole BBC News/BBC World colour scheme had changed to orange and black, just like BBC Four News had used, they recoloured the titles green when it became The World. They also replaced probably one of the best-ever David Lowe compositions with a far inferior version.

Kind of. It was basically similar but reworked in a different style. For me, the remixed version was inferior to the original which must surely be one of David Lowe’s best works.

When did the BBC Four simulcast end? Surely if they can find content for BBC4 at 7pm they can find content for at least an extra hour of BBC2's schedule in the morning.

In all of my time both on here and over at the blue place. I didn't realise that "BBC Four / World News" / "The World" theme music was done by David Lowe as it didn't sound like anything similar to what he did at the time. You definitely learn something new.

Because of the fast moving events in the US re Afghanistan. They were expecting a Biden news conference/statement regarding the breaking news of the withdrawal. His statement came in just before 10.55 and Lukwesa read it out, before World and UK then went to their seperate weather forecasts.

Wasn't that when she started presenting the main edition of Asia Today? I seem to think it it was around that time when it had a bit of a relaunch and had a dedicated presenter for the first time. Prior to that, the on duty news reader would present it. In 2000/2001 I think it was usually Stephen Cole before they rejigged the rosters and he moved to mornings. Coincidentally, it's 20 years this week since The World Today came back with Martine Dennis and Tanya Beckett at the helm. How time flies!

Just had a bit of a dig around on my external hard drive and found the publicity photo Geeta had taken when she first became a presenter 20 years ago. BBC World had a separate press/publicity website around that time (can't remember what it was called now) and I downloaded a bunch of publicity presenter photos and channel logos.

Going by the world news schedules the branded programmes are due to restart on Monday.
11:00-13:00- Live With Lucy Hockings
13:00-16:00- Impact with Yalda Hakim
16:00-18:30- Global with Matthew Amroliwala
(Excluding back half hour shows)

Saying goodbye to the iconic London backdrop. It served us well and remains fresh after all of these years. It will be hard to replace it with something as good imo.

Does the dark skyline go as well or is that being kept ?
