Do we know who the BBC have on commentary duty for the OC this evening as I’ve been unable to find it anywhere

Hopefully not Andrew Cotter and Hazel Irvine after their awful work during Tokyo's opening ceremony.

EDIT: Those 2 hit the headlines for being boring and talking too much during the 2016 opening ceremony too.. so it's probably almost a dead cert they will be there to do it again.

Sacrilegious.   Hazel is the best ceremonies commentator in the business and Andrew Cotter is increasingly being seen as one of the best all round commentators of his generation.     They would absolutely be first choice in most circumstances, but I suspect there may be a reluctance to have two Scottish voices for a games in Birmingham.

Andrew Cotter didn't stop waffling during the Tokyo Olympics. The purpose of a commentator is to provide relevant information, not blatantly fill time.

Given the studio at the stadium, perhaps they green between the windows is part of the branding rather than for chroma key. I’m sure they’ll be some virtual set extension though.

I’m guessing that studio won’t be seen until tomorrow though.

I do like that green and yellow BBC Sport hexagonal desk. Is a bit jarring that that's using the new BBC Sport logo along with the frosting on the glass, but the mic muffs are still using the old logo.

Not sure why they're limiting themselves to 11 streams when up to 30 are available for Channel 7 in Australia. I think tomorrow for example there is a point where there are 16 events potentially taking place, and things like table tennis and badminton will likely have coverage of at least a second court too. At least though it's an improvement on the Gold Coast where they unnecessarily limited themselves to a couple of extra streams, seemingly to make the cut back to just one extra Olympic stream not stand out as much.


Is UHD coverage of the opener tonight - from that SVG article that might be all that is produced in UHD HDR with the rest in 1080i HD.

There’s only 20 sports at the games so not sure they’ll ever be 30 separate streams available at the same time of live action at least. Channel 7 might be embellishing their offering somewhat. Balding certainly claimed it was every moment of every sport.

Oh, no doubt about that but the racquet sports will likely cover at least a second court/table, athletics will usually have a combined feed and separate feeds for field events so it soons adds up to 30.

The BBC schedule page is quite poor really and just a write up of each days events. Birmingham's own schedule page is pretty good for an overview but doesn't break down the times of events within each session.

Interestingly they've now added a "Broadcast Schedule", which is just a list of broadcasters - though they've listed S4C for England, Scotland and NI but not Wales. Also listed is Premier Sports - guessing they might be showing them in Ireland?
