The US networks have been filming alot of stuff in Australia and Ireland since covid began too.

Although I can’t see the UK being much better than the former than the entire United States.

It's not completely uncommon for pilots and early episodes of a new game show format from another country to be actually made in the country of origin, in the same studios and with the same production team who have had more experience of the show.

So is RuPaul filming celeb specials for a UK audience, then regular people episodes for the US audience? Are they going to be American contestants? I can't imagine the US audience caring for people from the UK as contestants or Z list UK celebs.

It's usually for high end productions so I doubt studio based gameshows qualify for tax breaks.

I doubt they'll film both in the same session.

Yes indeed, although so long ago that the UK version is likely the most current modern day incarnation of the format, so it makes sense from a production perspective. (I quite enjoyed the old US version, decades ago on Lifestyle… contestants picking balls out of a hopper, all the time chanting the sacred mantra “No lingo, no lingo” to ward away the penalty ball which they might end up drawing…)

Yeah, the old version had a bingo element, which doesn't exist in the new one. It was very different.

Of course, but it’s a fairly simple so I doubt that those reasons are really the case here. As has been said it’s the UK production that have been commissioned to produce it.

Here's a bit of a strange one... Unbeatable is back for a second series, which has been split between BBC Two and BBC One.

Strange because the BBC Two episodes will be 30 minutes, while the BBC One set will remain at 45 minutes.

Strange because the BBC Two episodes will be 30 minutes, while the BBC One set will remain at 45 minutes.

I'm going to guess the 45 minute episodes will be in October as The Tournament will be airing in September. 

I assume they've cut the battle rounds as you normally need to win two to progress.

Interesting and... strange. Presumably the extra 15 mins will just be filled with chat because they can't possibly edit out parts of the game that actually have an impact on the results.

The budgets for BBC Two half hour 6pm quizzes are lower than ever now, it's increasingly impossible to pitch anything that comes anywhere near the money they're offering so expect more of these types of commissions where can get more from their buck in the future.

It would be difficult, that's the whole point. The budgets are so low that studio days are being squeezed and the number of records a day is having to go up to four or even five. Simple enough for a show like Countdown where there is little in terms of resetting and there are learnings from decades of producing the show, much harder for a new quiz show with plenty of learnings to be had. I would assume the 45 minute episodes will be like QIXL type extended repeats of the same episodes.

Weakest Link on BBC Two was always 45 mins, but on BBC ONE they had some Thursday primetime eps in a 30 min slot from 8:30-9pm back in around 2001.

BBC Two eps always had 9 contestants for 45min eps, and only 7 players on the 30 min primetime BBC ONE eps.
