TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread

that would be the downside of outsourcing and/or centralisation - you inherit someone else's failures & increase the possibility of certain failures, such as the Red Bee incident last year that impacted literally all the PSBs except ITV because it would appear all the infrastructure is in the same building, if not the same room.

or to use the internet as an example, when companies like Cloudflare screw up and lots of websites and services go down

Another odd one here, they didnt even do an announcement just stayed silent for a bit then cut straight to music so presumably there was no announcer on duty at the time of breakdown?

Also what does FAC-LINE1 mean?

FacilityLine is the name of the point-to-point video circuit product sold by BT - usually (though not always) between BT Tower and a broadcaster's premises. I guess something along the path lost video and went to those bars, which are numbered to identify the particular circuit.

This may as well have been called "The Big Breakdown"

3 sightings of the breakdown slide in one programme!  Big Grin

I remember that well. The location of the OB was fairly ironic too..... a school in Media City Salford.

I won't tell you what caused it, but it wasn't the militant wing of the anti-Nicky Campbell campaign  Big Grin
Wasn't it (ironically for a religious programme) them putting too much faith in a single satellite feed in bad weather?
Write that down in your copybook now
Not sure it even counts as a breakdown but the end of Granada Reports tonight had a long hold on the ITV News endcap and then about 30 seconds of an "ITV GRANADA" logo floating around the screen screensaver style.

Although I don't subscribe to Premier Sports, they're trending on Twitter. They had exclusive coverage of the Sunderland v Rangers friendly, and there was apparently a floodlight failure at the stadium. However, unrelated to this, after the floodlight failure, Premier Sports seemingly lost coverage of the match, having had another game on earlier this week, where they also lost coverage. So, they've been showing a trailer, with "Never miss a moment" as the slogan (you can imagine the reaction to that!), and old football coverage.

Speaking to a friend who does subscribe to Premier Sports, he, like me, is a keen rugby union fan, and said they also lost coverage of the Japan rugby union international as well today.

Talking of sports...
Sky Sports had some problems with coverage of The Open falling to a blank screen earlier. Accompanying music was the newer piano based breakdown music rather than Bassosphere.

Still seem to be having a few glitches as I type.

I can remember a breakdown on Bravo once around 2007ish before Gamer TV. After the promos, it went to the usual 3 second ident (one of those since 1989 ones or whatver year it is on a black screen), then it went straight to the breakdown slide saying something like "Sorry, there is a fault" on the left hand side. Atfer a minute, the programme started as usual mid-way through the opening titles.

If I remember, this happened on one of those early Virgin catch-up things where their catch up service is usually recorded off-air rather than their own streaming.
I just remembered a technical fault Channel 4 had. An episode of the revived Crystal Maze was airing, then after the first break the show started, but they accidentally repeated the first part instead of showing the second part. Then, if I recall correctly, the Channel 4 logo appeared on screen, and then an announcer said something along the lines of “We love Crystal Maze so muchthat we accidentally played it again from the start!”. Then, the episode started again from the second part supposed to air.

Does anyone else remember this? I'm pretty sure this was a premiere as well, so I don't think it's lost. A link to this would be appreciated if it's not lost, or at least someone else remembering it. Thanks. This happened around 2016-2017 too.

Here's one from Yorkshire Television on the 17th July 1989 where they have problems trying to start The Cook Report
