Tbf, it’s about one time in 100 you get a massive breaking story during the 6 o clock news slot. Just an unfortunate turn of events for the BBC (though not as unfortunate as for Boris…)

I think it’s being flexible. I switched back to the news channel when I got a notification about Sajid Javid but it seemed clear that there were no particular rumours to this effect. They didn’t know what was going to happen but could adjust their plans when it did.

I think from a Wimbledon point of view it's been one of the least disruptive days scheduling wise - essentially just a 15 minute overrun on BBC1.  Luckily they stuck with tennis on BBC2 rather than breaking away meaning they didn't have to drop another programme 15 minutes in.
