4Music to become E4 Extra

About time too - this should have happened years ago when 4Music started showing non-music content so it's great to see 4Music reverting to all-music in my opinion.

No subtitles on The Inbetweeners Movie on E4 Extra tonight. Considering it is supposed to be the flagship show on launch day, for it to have no subtitles is cutting out quite a wide amount, especially since younger people prefer having subtitles. 4Music didn't have subtitles on some programmes anyway.

Presumably it has aired several times on E4, Film4 and C4 with subtitles so no excuse really.

The changes are now live, seamless on 4Music -> E4 Extra but less so on the Box Hits -> 4Music changeover...

Box Hits ran until 6am, at 6am we got the Box Hits ident multiple times in a row with the last of which froze on the last frame. It remained frozen for nearly 40 mins before crashing into 4Music...

Wonder what caused that and why it was frozen for so long.

Does anyone know when E4xtra will move out of the music section on Virgin? Seems a bit silly keeping it up there.

Is the E4 Extra now & next guide supposed to be added to the Live TV section of the All4 app. It has not shown up yet on the Android App.

I think the new 4Music is just Box Hits with the 4Music branding and they forgot to change one of the idents over...

If you have a look at the schedules for Box Hits from before the switch, they are structured the same way - even the show names "Nothin' But Hits" and the overnight strand "All The Hits, All Night" are carried over... Bit lazy but understandable I suppose...


Quick Additional: I note the Box Hits link has been renamed to 4Music on boxplus.com but the URL and page still say Box Hits. Also the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram links at the bottom of the page just link to the respective sites but not to the specific account as you'd expect...

Reason it still says Box Hits on the page is because the url generates the page name at the top of the page, and the live stream as well (eg. if the url was “?channel=random-channel-name” then the top of the page will say “Watch Random Channel Name Live”). Also the social links on BoxPlus.com’s footer were already added when they installed the CMS theme they’re using, and for some reason they never removed them.

The oddest thing about all this is while The Box Plus channels have their own playout, the actual company was dissolved in 2019 with Channel 4 taking direct control of the music channels.

Yet All4 doesn't have live streams of the music channels, leaving boxplus.com as a holding website for viewers wishing to see the likes of KISS TV and Magic TV.

So E4 Extra has replaced 4Music, 4Music has replaced Box Hits, and The Box itself is due to go away tomorrow but it still has programmes scheduled for the next week- is The Box rebranding into something too? (4Music was a result of Box Hits' rebrand; not The Box)
