1999-2001 was the really plain set I think you're referring to - Gill Sans (I think) and non-animated. As I say, that launched on Grand National day and it was also the time they dropped the spinning world logo in favour of the BBC Sport intro with quick cut shots of blurry sports stars and no tune. 1999 was probably BBC Sport's annus horribilis in terms of rights losses (and Des' departure, of course), which seemed to fit with this plain set, quite a contrast to the whizzy graphics on other channels.

New graphics used outside tennis for the first time on the Diamond League athletics...apart from the titles

Gosh they don’t look good do they. Very blocky and basic PowerPoint gradient look to me

The channel names being in black just looks wrong.

So the generic look is yellow all the way across. These "gradient" backgrounds, also used in BBC presentation now, just look so cheap and dated.

Catching up on this thread, on the very 1st post, I can't believe they were showing all new BBC Sport graphics, yet using old style BBC Sport Muffs in the same shot. Unbelievable!

Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, on... BBC? Have they not decided which channel yet? Is there a clash?

Also, where's the consistency? 15th July, July 28th, August 11th. Why isn't the first date in the same format as the other two?

Consistency - this is the BBC after all.

Also no sign of the icon in any of the graphics yet. Guess we need six months to get used to them first.

That was at the start of the programme, with another coming up slide at the end which used the same format for 15th July. Also the tennis is on BBC Two at 11:00 tomorrow, not One.

Also, how come there's new BBC Sport logos and graphics on Wimbledon, yet the old branding is being used on the News Channel, including the temporary studio??

The last rollout took over a year IIRC, so don't be surprised if it's similar this time around.
