Eurovision 2023 - BBC
As far as choosing the host arena, shouldn't the BBC just go for the largest capacity possible as a way to sell more tickets?
Joining in from Paris, France.

Not always possible as venues are often booked for concerts years in advance.
Well the BBC do have to agree first. Most likely they will.

To be fair, the words ‘the largest capacity possible’ already excludes anywhere that’s not possible.

But yes, the decision will also have to consider things like transport links and capacity to for the city to host the contest. Although I’d imagine in reality most major cities will be capable.

I remember seeing on Twitter that the Hydro in Glasgow has been cleared of bookings for the entirety on next May. It’s possible the BBC is considering that venue and that would hold quite a lot.
There is no way the BBC are going to turn this down. There's also no way the Government will let them.

The UK is a significant ally - and without being political if Boris still has one fan left, it's Zlensky. Also, what an incredibly timed opportunity for the BBC to show itself off at its absolute best. After all Sam's done for the perception of the show locally and the amazing job the BBC did at the Jubilee Concert, they'd be crazy not to ride that wave.

As the EBU's language suggests, Ukraine will still be heavily represented.
I would think the contest would still have to be as if it was Ukrainian albeit in the UK.

So Ukranian hosts, Ukranian locations in the 'postcards', and Ukranian theme/flavour to proceedings?

Not to mention that even if a major city has high hotel capacity, good transport links and a big arena, that doesn't necessarily mean much if the arena itself isn't suitable.
Gothenburg has a pretty large arena in the Scandinavium but the shape of the roof and size of the car park makes storing and rigging the various lights and cameras needed for esc far too complicated. It's a surprisingly complex decision to make but the UK has a number of good options to pick from so I'm sure the BBC will make the right choice.
I think they would try and choose a city that would be well known in Ukraine rather than one that Perhaps not so many people there would even know.
Inevitable but the right call.

Not a chance - they'll be a nod for sure but this is now a British hosted contest and needs to be treated as such to have the best chance to succeed.

It surely needs a bit more than a nod, they did win after all we cannot steal it off them. They could easily just have 4 hosts, 2 UK, 2 Ukranian.
What an opportunity for the BBC, and what an amazing coincidence that the one year in recent times that the UK does well but doesn't win just so happens to have come when the winning country can't host, as has happened historically when the BBC has stepped in to host in the past.

Will be really interesting to see how the host city process plays out, and indeed what sort of government involvement there is, if any.
It sounds like the EBU have decided against allowing Suspline to find an alternative country where they could host it with only assistance from the local broadcaster.

Although, if we were to win next year, which seems unlikely. Would there be a feeling we’d have to let Ukraine to host the following year, assuming it looks better place to host it in years times?

In terms of nods to Ukraine, I think this years winners performing at some stage and some kind of Ukrainian influenced interval act should be enough.
