Launch BBC News: Studio B

I'm guessing the idea of London bulletins moving into B is to share a gallery & crew with the national bulletins. The downside may be that it affects the regional team's rehearsal time.

With B having multiple presentation points it should be possible to have the regional presenter positioned out of shot from the national bulletin for the inserts and start of the regional programme.

On a related note does anyone know if the doors at the top of the spiral staircase are real or for show? If so it potentially gives an alternative entrance/exit, as well as presenting from the balcony.

And as I said a few pages back, if touchscreen offered anything more than gimmicks I would have expected weather to have been all over it already with something like Sky use for Monday Night Football

This is a possibility, but BBC News have always had a weird attitude to pre-recording this sort of thing.

I don't see why it's a "weird" attitude, I would think the vast majority of the public expects news bulletins to be live. And I can't imagine it ever happening.

It happens a lot with the ITV regions and also in commercial radio. I don't see why it'd be so inconceivable that the BBC might do it too.

I would hazard a guess that the public expects weather bulletins to be live as well, but the BBC is often happy to record those.

I’m not sure what the situation is with IRN these days. Although Radio News Hub who provide national bulletins for community and other smaller stations pre-record and upload all their bulletins.

My takeaway from this is that they'll all follow suit. The very idea that E will be mothballed is ridiculous. It's at the heart of the Newsroom and killing it off after just  a decade just seems fantasy.

The idea of the 6/10 leaving them for B though would have been deemed ridiculous pre-covid ago.

The only reason I suggest it is that firstly if they do reduce studios it surely makes sense to use the actual studios.   And secondly in upgrading studios it is far less disruptive to update C/D in their self contained spaces than E smack bang in the middle of the newsroom.

They're definitely touch screens - the idea being there isn't the need for someone in the gallery to manage the slides!

Do they go on a coffee break from changing the graphics during the rest of the programme? That doesn't seem like very good timing.

They're definitely touch screens - the idea being there isn't the need for someone in the gallery to manage the slides!

There will still be someone in the gallery 'babysitting' the slides, that's for sure, so that person still has to exist.

What leads you to the conclusion they are, quote 'definitely' touch screens, I've seen nothing from trusted tweeters etc that confirms it one way or the other ?

Sure, E will be THE most disruptive with it being where it is, but it's sealed off by glass, am sure they can pull pull a curtain (and not the curtain used when Newsnight were in there). I'd hope they do E next with both channels merging at a date TBC.

Studio A and C are 15x11m wall-to-wall (and are physical mirrors of each other), Studio B is 23x15m wall-to-wall (though used to have 1.5m firelanes on all four sides, but I don't think the new set does), Studio D is 13.5x11m, Studio E is around 14x11m (though a bit weirdly shaped).

In terms of height, B is roughly 7.5m floor-to-ceiling, the other basement studios are about 4m high and E is about 3m high.

ITV London has proved it's possible for regional news and national news programmes to share resources so it shouldn't be an issue.

Will the 1pm News move into Studio B when Studio E is being refitted and refurbished? I have not watched the 1pm News, so are they still in Studio E? Thanks.
