Without wanting to nitpick, does anyone know what this black line is all about? It looks like a join but this is the only one in the whole studio from what I can see, and it's right in the middle of the 1!

Is there a reason for the random area of laminate flooring, other than someone had a bit left over after renovating their convervatory?

I'm not sure how it fits in with any 'design' to the set.  But then again, neither does the 'stairway to nowhere'.

I would imagine it is just part of the design. What kind of floor would you suggest fits into the design? If it was just painted black it would not stand out. Even if the platform had an edge it would look odd. At the same time it should be different from the main platforms. It may be adjusted at some stage if it doesn't work. I have certainly seen such flooring on a TV set before but I can't recall where.

Laminate flooring was used in BBC News/regional news studios circa 1999-2003, so is familiar with those of us of a certain age.

The set looks stunning from the previews. A big step up from the currant set. Can’t wait to see it in action at 10.

I don’t see the walking up and down the stairs lasting, but don’t know why it’s so terrible to some negative nellies. I think it looks great even as a nod to NBH and forms part of the amazing physical design they have developed. The moaning would make sense if it was AI but it’s not.

Any insiders care to let us know the resolution of the various screens in that studio?

Sky used a fake 'staircase and 6 inch wide mezzanine' 15 years ago for headline trailers when they produced Five/5 News. It soon disappeared.

It didn't work then, and it won't work now for BBC News. It's really so pointless.

Well... it looks fantastic doesn't it. Exactly what BBC News should be doing.

It's certainly going to modernise the way the national bulletins are presented which has been desperately needed for quite some time. If you compare to how main bulletins are presented across the big networks in Europe and Canada, the UK has been stuck in a bit of a time warp for a while. I said back in 2008 that BBC News needed to evolve it's presentation into something that would attract a younger audience. The N6 era of BBC News (in terms of presentation and studio usage) was pretty dire all said and done, not helped by the space they had. Moving to New Broadcasting House in 2013 brought a return to standing presentation on the News channel which was welcomed and something I'd been harking on about for several years (I remember being told 'We're not Sky News, that's why we do what we do' which I never really bought into - you can make things interesting without walking around a whole studio!).

The multiple presentation areas give me a bit of a 'Sky News Centre' of old feeling, especially the news wall. The layout is great and for elections it's going to look awesome on screen.

Chris Cook must have been behind the new studio B, so huge, huge kudos Chris (and a big hug) - it's great! There's clearly elements of 1999 (laminate flooring), 2008 and 2013 all blended in one. Familiar, yet modern.

If BBC Breakfast gets a similar look in Salford and the regions get a mini hybrid version of B (a touch screen, desk area similar to B and a Monolith) that would tie everything in really nicely.

Like most have said, it's a shame they couldn't just role out the new BBC News branding for the network bulletins, but I kind of understand why. The Lambie Nairn branding has more than had it's day and it's time for it to be retired and for the next generation of branding to put a staple on the output's identity. I also think it's sad that the national bulletins didn't make the most of being in the newsroom studio and venturing out into the newsroom to talk to correspondents etc, that opportunity seems to have now come and gone.

In a way, it's a BBC version of CNN's new London studio. I mean the same sort of multi-presentation, multiscreen, balcony/stairs/wooden floor, set up.

Maybe someday they'll finally roll out the new branding. Also I do wish the One would be in the same studio too.
Studio E could do with a bit of a makeover but its size would make it challenging.

This is NBHs equivalent to N6 I guess only a million times better I really think they need to light up the top floor though and it will look even better I reckon.

Someone mentioned the new set BBC News set looked European. For the redesign of breakfast set I heard they were going towards American breakfast show!
