I'm pretty sure it will make an appearance, think about what Huw said about the portrait screen being like a phone

I'm not sure how it fits in with any 'design' to the set.  But then again, neither does the 'stairway to nowhere'.

I would imagine it is just part of the design. What kind of floor would you suggest fits into the design? If it was just painted black it would not stand out. Even if the platform had an edge it would look odd. At the same time it should be different from the main platforms. It may be adjusted at some stage if it doesn't work. I have certainly seen such flooring on a TV set before but I can't recall where.

The stairway is real and does go to the balcony above. It then continues on off screen and ends. So technically it is not just to "nowhere" I am not sure if the balcony can be used but the stairs can be as far as I know. They probably kept it going so it would look better on screen instead of just ending and looking short. The actual stairwells in the newsroom go up higher (in hight) so it would have looked odd being short.
Think the cameras would look better if they were white. Few cans of spray paint and it’d be sorted.

Never knew that the old set was inundated with currants Big Grin

The new ones don’t make me think that.

That promo still makes me feel goosebumps. The way NBH is filmed, the newsroom, the studio and that music! Wouldn't that be a great music theme for BBC News if it was ever to move on from the beeps. A guy can dream, I guess.....
Staircase kind of got used in the 9pm promo. Was just Huw standing on the steps with a zoom in.

A shot of Huw on the stairs during the trail for the Ten at the 9pm BBC One junction. The thing that caught my eye most though was the transition to the 'watch on iPlayer' symbol at the end! The animation looked like it was running at half speed or was a demo version as seemed a bit jerky. Both the trail immediately before and after used the same animation but much faster and looking much slicker.
Without wanting to nitpick, does anyone know what this black line is all about? It looks like a join but this is the only one in the whole studio from what I can see, and it's right in the middle of the 1!

I’d get if that fake background of studio e and have all the regional presenters rehearsing and admiring Huw and his enormous studio Big Grin
