Clean Feed has just announced that the identifiers will start to appear on BBC TV channels from this Saturday
BBC Wales jumped the gun!
Never mind that - let's celebrate!

This is nice and all, but now the BBC stretch animations don't have a purpose to exist without the logo reappearing at the end.
Wonderfully weird.

It's like that now
Shorter promos and (as) live trails, like that one for Wales Live, Question Time and the recent News at Ten one, often just end on the iPlayer slate.

Indeed - that’s what the ‘blips’ are for, isn’t it? To ‘set up’ the logo expanding animation and lead into the ident.

That's about 100 times nicer than what we have now. It very much resembles a prototype video which leaked before the rebrand last October - so I'm not sure why they held these icon animations back in the first place? Unless it's because the app updates weren't ready.

You’re right. I do think this approach makes the junctions rather cluttered though. It’s as if each promo has three endboards - the programme info, the iPlayer logo and then the channel blip.
For a system designed to flow, it’s not very clean.

The generic end boards don't help - baffles me how with a design based around the centre you left align the programme text on a fairly none discript background. Thankfully most use the programme logo centred instead.
Agree in this design the identifier feels unnecessarily clunky. Doesn't help the channels don't have their own symbol as I think the BBC transitioning to a 1 and then to the play symbol would feel more cohesive.
Perhaps promoting iPlayer first then it transitioning back to the blocks for the channel endcap would work better.

I don't get it, it feels soooo unnecessary and unneeded (as if iPlayer was something "separated" from the rest), especially in this era where streaming is pretty much the norm!
I don't get the BBC , from time to time, I really don't, it's like they live in a universe to make everything absurdly complicated
Not only it makes junctions absolutely messy, the iPlayer icon could be easily placed within the main endboard, and stop!
That would make everything neater, and the logo transition in particular

I think they work for iPlayer only trailers, but not so much for the BBC1/iPlayer where really the iPlayer should be secondary in the promotion.
What I think is also an issue is whilst with BBC Sounds it feels like now that BBC Radio and BBC Sounds are one and the same thing and when they promote Sounds they also promote the mother brand too it still feels like with television that the channel is a competing brand to the iPlayer, rather than part of it. It doesn't feel like BBC1/2/4 or even BBC3 is promoted as a brand within iPlayer in the same way that Radio 1 exists as a brand within BBC Sounds.

They should do it so "Watch on iPlayer" and the icon are in a black box near the bottom of the screen, so they won't have to use the blip anymore.
Wonderfully weird.

But what if a non-BBC promo goes into a BBC promo? The stretch animation wouldn't serve much purpose without the blip starting it
Lyric... they're ALL BBC promos. The BBC don't show advertising. Plus they can just use the stretch animation in the endboard.
Wonderfully weird.

Actually, I feel the opposite. This is probably becuase since we view the iPlayer symbol/word more than the Sounds symbol/word, we have more of a view that the channels and iPlayer are seperate. Whereas instead the Sounds word is read, it feels more connected, due to having our mind making up what to see, instead of having something to already see.
