I read “expanding the CNN brand to China” as an effort to bring in money from a new licensed channel, like CNN Phillipines or CNN Brasil, more so than an expansion of CNNI.

Interestingly Anna Coren anchored in Rosemary Church’s spot this morning and had segments from both Ivan Watson and Kristie Lu Stout. Shame they don’t have an actual studio with an anchor desk in Hong Kong, instead Ivan and Kristie had to join from a different broom cupboard.

Rather ironically, I think KLS's segment was from the actual HK studio!

It was, I noticed that as well. Found it odd that they had Anna Coren in the broom closet for her hour of Newsroom but has Kristie Lu Stout in the main studio for her short hit. Seems it should have been reversed.

The actual studio only really allows for standing presentation which may not be the most comfortable for covering longer slots.

I'm not sure about Jim Scuitto, he seems to stay in his lane as much as possible, but Brian Steltar could very well be on his way out the door. Same goes for Don Lemon.

The more I hear about Licht’s vision the more I like it, it may not be as ratings grabbing but it’s much needed for CNN’s reputation to even start to recover.

The news should be the star and too often under Zucker it felt like some anchors and reporters were bigging up their part and the channel became obsessed with talking head shoutfests over informing the viewer. It may have improved viewing figures but CNN’s reputation took a hit. Going back to basics is no bad thing.
And he’s spot on with the Breaking News thing, for a while you could count on one hand the times The Situation Room didn’t start with ‘Breaking News’

I've felt the difference in the past week when dipping into New Day. One of the top stories being Boris vote, no breaking news sting before or after titles and no constant waffle about Trump.

Interesting what Trump did (resulting in him being Impeached twice and creating a movement nationalist/racist movement that led to him inciting a insurrection that attacked the capitol resulting in deaths) is considered waffle but "Partygate" was significant news.

But since Trump is gone and with Licht at the helm hopefully CNN can find its footing, but its a uphill battle that I dont think they willl be able to ever beat. FNC continues to do/say literally thing without impunity and they dont get as much blow back as CNN.

Arwa Damon is leaving. IMO, CNN's best war reporter! Her reporting from Iraq remains unforgettable. Another huge loss for the already crippled network. Can all the greats leaving form their own channel or something.....

Sad to hear. Arwa is one of the best correspondents they have on the ground. Hopefully this a good departure, her line of work can certainly take its mental toll.

Still - I don’t understand why so much top talent is leaving. CNNI has the best chance of a refresh under Chris Licht’s vision unless the plan is to morph the channels a la BBC News/World.

I guess we’ll have to wait until Autumn to see what’s in store.

Hopefully Chris Licht can stop the bleed of their top talent and bolster the loads of people that have left the international network in the last year. The departures leads me to beleive they have either realized something or been told something. We as the audience can clearly see CNNi has been severely downgraded.. I wonder if the on-air understand the focus is now domestic is/has been the priority and International isnt the a focus of the bigwigs.
