BBC News: April 2022 onwards

Not sure if it’s something to do with yesterdays announcement but since the news at one today they have opened the bulletins with “good afternoon and welcome to the BBC’s lunchtime news” strange wording especially for the opening to the news at one.

That was surely an error by Seema Katetcha, perhaps trying to throw some ad lib into the intro. Many of the irregular NC presenters try their own style - usually always ends in failure. 

Not a fan of Seema doing rolling news. She's excelling at her role at Panorama. This maybe however the BBC saves money buy having multidiscipline journalists.

Martine Croxall started the News at One saying the same thing. Sounds like the autocue wasn't amended, but doesn't explain why the One was introduced that way. Let's see what happens on Monday.

For about 3 days a few months ago the One was introduced as 'The BBC's One O'Clock News' so could just be an error.

Another fact, The Six is always introduced as 'Welcome to the BBC News at Six' (George says it slightly differently) and when Huw's presenting it, there's no introduction at all, he just says 'Good evening...' and then into the top story. The Ten has never had a voiced by the presenter intro so there's not much consistency.

Reeta Chakrabarti also says "good evening" then goes straight into the 1st story when she does the 6. Also Sophie Raworth sometimes introduces "good evening and welcome to the BBC News at Ten" when doing, well, the 10.

I guess it depends on the presenter.

Unrelated a bit but I have a question. does the bbc news at one not get a new studio?.  I read it’s just 6 & 10. Was going to catch it after I finish work

If the 1/6/10 end up simulcast on BBC World regularly I wouldn't be surprised if references to the time they air being cut back, though of course using "lunchtime"/"teatime" etc. doesn't help that either.

There isn't really any need for a simulcast at those times, so it's the perfect opportunity for the 'new BBC-NC' to concentrate on international news, as the 'domestic flavoured' version would be on BBC One.

All UK viewers have access to both channels, so they can go for the international option if they wish, or BBC One for more domestic focus.

Not sure the demand is there for it and the BBC are not going to want to compete with themselves.  I suspect opt outs will be very limited too so continuing to do so for the BBC1 bulletins, along with Breakfast, will add to those hours with absolutely no additional effort. Elements of Breakfast and the One are also signed, which I suspect will continue.

Absolutely agreed. She’s long been overlooked by the likes of Reeta, Clive and others. She is by far the most lauded and experienced. I hope she’s a part of the A team moving forward.

Is it just me who thinks Reeta is a bit overrated? Yes she is the master of an autocue but to me she doesn’t quite stack up to the likes of Clive, Sophie as an anchor. Put it this way, I think she’d struggle on that Marr replacement they seem to have all been on lately

They actually announced that a new look is coming to the News at Six and Ten from next month, so I think it might still be on the NEWS Channel and BBC ONE.

Annita McVeigh has also finally made it on to prime time BBC One. She was on at 6 and will also be on at 10 (with Reeta at Buckingham Palace).

They actually announced that a new look is coming to the News at Six and Ten from next month, so I think it might still be on the NEWS Channel and BBC ONE.
